Default this is BS!

I took my car into honda today to see whats the deal with my 3rd gear notchy, grind problem that alot of people have. After them checking it out they said it was because I went from 6th to second and over revved! I don't remember me ever doing that.

They said because of this computer proof of me doing it they cannot cover it under warrant and that if i want it fixed it's going to be $1008. I told them I had proof of other si's who have this problem on honda tech. They said the proof I have is un valid because of me supposedly going from 6th to 2nd.

So I guess for the next 5 years I'm going to have to drive my si nice and cautous when i shift into 3rd. pshhh

If you over-revved it would have hit the limiter which is something you would have remembered. So did you? Tell the dealer you want a print out of the scan from the ecu. If they deny you get on the phone with Honda and tell them the situation.

So WTF is wrong with your car? Is it your gears....your tranny....what! Or did they just make up some bullshit lie to con you out of money?

I didn't know the computer can read gear changes and when they occur....I thought it only back tracks RPM rev ranges.

Im not exactly sure how they do it.....but, say the revs are recorded at 8k rpms and then the revs drop to 6k rpms and the speed is increased rather than a decrease caused by a lift of the throttle. Im sure that would denote a shift. Does that make sense? Im trying my best here to explain it.

I say get a print out or have them show you the results and POINT OUT exactly where the so-called mis-shift happened. If they try to bullshit you further after that....not wanting to show you the printout.....then go to corporate. They need to be able to PROVE you screwed up. And if they can prove it then they should have no problem showing you the proof. Not just make a blind claim just to try to squeeze money out of you.

I got copies of the test they ran..and it shows that I did shift from 6ht to second and it revved to 9085 RPMS. But I didn't say anything about my 2nd or 6th acting up, just my third. It just doesn't make any sense to me how my 3rd gear is notchy cause of something i did in 2nd gear. I honestley dont remember that to begin with. They're just using that as an excuse to not fix anything on my tranny.

It's easier than you think actually. Most people aren't aware how close these gears are to each other so it's certainly possible.

Although the point still stands....people have been having this 3rd gear issue for a long time now. OP try changing your tranny fluid to the new Honda MTF if you haven't already.

6th and 2nd are next to each other, no reason you should be going towards 2nd or even 4th from 6th .... 6th to 3rd is understandable, at least it's in the right direction.

what the dealer said is BS unless they can show you on the datalog printout where you overrevved on a missed shift.

I'm still confused as to how reving the engine is going to harm the transmission... or how going from 6th gear to 2nd will hurt 3rd.

They all sound unrelated.

I took my FA to the stealership for the same issue. They claimed nothing was wrong and it didn't need to be fixed. I'm almost afraid to ask them about it again because of what you just told me. I'd like to think my dealership wouldn't screw me like that if something does go wrong but you never know.

Does anyone know what it takes for Honda to release a recall for this issue. Something tells me a dealership won't even touch this issue without one.

Good luck bro!

Scan the print out (for us to see what they see), and it does sound like you just screwed yourself over tho.

I'm thinking like you tho, what does shifting to second have to do with 3rd...

X2

I'd like to see that. I'd also like to know how they determine what gear you're in?

It can be determined by the speed of the car and what RPM the engine is at. If you have both of those it can be figured out.
