Aftermarket Turbo
I've been trying to find relatively inexpensive ways to increase horsepower on my 2006 Civic EX coupe 1.8L, a friend of mine recommended a catback exhaust, comp chip/reflash, intake...but what about a turbocharger? I see them on ebay for around like $130, and I always thought they were alot more than that...so, are they worth it, or will they even work in my car?

Re: Aftermarket Turbo
The only other parts you will need will be a 3" to 2" hose adapter. You can get this in the plumbing section of home depot. And 2 3" hose clamps and a 2" hose clamp.
Take a utility knife and cut your intake tube, halfway between the throttle body and your air cleaner and cut it in half. Place the turbo there. Use the hose clamps to attach the intake hoses to both sides of the turbo. You will use that adapter to attach to the smaller 2" inlet on the turbo side. The 3" outlet on the compressor side of the turbo should fit your intake tube nicely.
The intake air will spin the turbine side, which will spin the compressor side and create boost pressure which will be directed to your throttle body. An easy 50 horsepower no problem.

Re: Aftermarket Turbo
That's what I'm saying. SI with 2 bolt ons. So I'm sure an R18 with a turbo and plenty of torque will clean house on some 200 to 250 hp V6's

Re: Aftermarket Turbo
And OP the other method you have of installing that turbo is by installing it down stream in the exhaust. Still simple but you will have to go to a muffler shop and pay about 100 bucks. You will just have to make a cut on your exhaust. Take out a section that is as wide as the turbo inlet and outlet. Then just have them weld to the flange side of the turbo and to the compressor side outlet and it will suck the exhaust out of the car giving you the same effect and producing a ton of power also your new redline would be about as high as the si's at about 7800rpm

Re: Aftermarket Turbo
None of these cars are typical cars that would engage in racing. The ones listed prior however are more likely encounters.

Re: Aftermarket Turbo
a d16 can throw as much power as this boosted... and ur wrong about half because most 350z drivers cant drive. on SLICKS 220hp u can be looking in the 13's. that beats ur mustang and more then half the shyt on that list. so go figure

Re: Aftermarket Turbo
for real. you need the turbo, manifold, piping, intercooler, injectors, a way to control the new injectors (ecu reflash, piggyback, etc), bov, wastegate, and preferrably a bigger exhaust. it's more than a few hundred $ project, that's for sure. if you look through 8thcivic or google you can find complete kits for your car.
this is the 06+ forum noob, no d16's here.
