17x8.5 +50mm, Am I going to Rub?? Need Spacers???
I ordered a set of wheels not knowing that I might have rubbing issues with this size, they are going on a sedan. Will I have rubbing issues? what spacer am I going to need to run??

you are going to rub for sure on the inside. my 8.5 +41 had like 3mm of clearance with stock struts. id say a 15mm spacer

It depends on what size tires you are going to use. With a 215 or 225 I don't think you will need spacers at all.
I have 19x8 with 55 offset and 245/30/19 with no spacers and steering wheel fully locked over they rubbed the fender liner on the inside by the motor not the outside. And I had to put 20mm spacers to clear my wilwoods and they don't rub anywhere now.
If you compare it to my setup you have this: Your wheel is .5" wider but your offset is 14 milimeters less, which puts you 14mm closer to the outside of the car when compared to me. There is 25.4mm in 1 inch. So 14mm is just about .5" which cancels out the extra width that your wheel is over mine. So if you keep a stock rolling diameter, which mine is very close to, then you should be able to run what I have which is 245 tire width. So that's why I say a 215 or 225 should be safe without spacers.
Still with me? I pondered this for awhile when I got my wheels. It's gets confusing when you start looking at offsets and spacers.

My bad I just saw that you had 50mm offset. It was the other guy that replied that had 41mm. So you will be 9mm closer to the shock. I still think you would be safe with a 215 or 225 but it will be close with out a spacer. Avoid spacers if you can. They put more stress on your studs and wheel bearings. Buy high quality hub centric spacers such as H&R and do it right if you do
I doesn't matter how close you are to the shock as long as it's not touching. The shock and tire move in unison as you turn the wheel because the shock is bolted the the knuckle.

on 235/40 tires, all you need is a 5mm spacer. 8.5 +45 offset should clear everything. +50 offset rubs the strut on the passenger front side and it rubs the gas tank rear left side if im not mistaken.

on my current setup, i have about 1mm of clearance with my front shocks because i run full negative camber in the front to avoid rubbing. the rears are also full negative camber, but i never checked the clearance, but im sure im nowhere near rubbing anything.
this must be his first set of wheels he bought because thats an error most people do. they buy wheels because of the size and lug pattern and they dont know about offset and sometimes the wheels dont fit or the offset is real high and they dont like how far in the wheels sit.

Hey Ivtec when you say you run full neg. camber does that mean the tops of your tires are tilted in towards the motor? Does that play hell on your tire wear?

full negative is only 1.75 degrees. yes the tops are towards my motor, i obviously cant run positive because i would've had a blow out by now from my fender slicing my $700 tires. and 1.75 is basically what you get when you lower it on sportlines because thats how much my camber was when i had them.

how are you going to give people offset advice when you dont even know which way the tire is tilted with negative camber. LMAO

All I know is that what I have doesn't leave room for a wider tire or wheel. So based on wheel width and offset when compared to mine I feel I have pretty good handle on what will rub or not

wheels look good. tad to big for my taste. Your tires have no stretch to them. You could run the next size down and lower the car more without messing with camber.

Well I just have HFP springs so I'm non adjustable. But when you change the camber won't that make the inner part of the tires wear quicker? I paid enough for the tires so I just want them to wear evenly.

Haha no jdm fever.
I actually would've picked 18's for a bit more tire sidewall height but I found this style wheel and really liked them and I was hell bent on stuffing 245's in there so I had to get the 30 series tire to maintain stock diameter. I didn't have a fortune to spend on wheels so these were like 1200 with new tpms sensors and I figured HFP are better quality than cheapo wheels and they are only slightly heavier than my stockers.
