Default 07 Si Mugen vs 08 Accord coupe 6MT

Hey guys,
Hows it going? My name is Hannes and I'm new to the forum. I am in the market for a new car and am having difficulties deciding. Thought it would be best to ask the people who know best what their opinions were.

I found an 07 Mugen with 4000 miles for $22k and an 08 Accord EX-L 6MT Coupe with 12 miles for $23k. Among other things like like the smallness of the civic, the fairly decent gas mileage, and its overall suspension feel. Im concerned about the toyish look of the car.

The Accord to me is a much classsier/sharper car (in my opinion). I dont really like how it feels so streched out but find it more handy for giving someone other than midgets a ride in the back seat.

What opinions do you guys have on each? Which do you think is the better buy? I do have a bike for the thrill factor but would prefer a sports car to a luxury car.

Thanks for any help,
Hannes

Why would anyone trade in a hefty investment like a Mugen Si??

Oh well....anyhow....looks like you just answered your own question OP. If the Accord is a "classier, sharper and more handy car" for your particular lifestyle, then that's what you should go for.

Honestly.....I like the look of the new Accord sedan....but I don't like the way the back end of the coupe looks. But it is the roomier car....and faster to. I think you wouldn't have as much of a problem with car vandals either with the Accord as opposed to a limited-production car that's eye candy for the modern chop shoppers.

I have 05 Accord EX 5spd and 08 FA5.
To me Accord has better options, like leather seat, power seat, Auto-Climate control, and heating seat. If you are looking for something that looks luxury and sporty go for the Accord. But if you are looking for having fun to drive, then go for Si.

Mugen is a limited-production car!

My brother pitted his 07 sedan with a cat back and a cold air intake against a V6 accord coupe with the same mods and the accord lost.

Since you are daily driving the car and not garage keeping it for recreational use I say get the accord.

thanks for all the suggestions guys. Its really appreciated.

The accord just feels so big and the gas mileage is not very impressive.

my commute is 25 min. and ill be making a once a week 200 mile (one way) trip. I prefer smaller, sportier cars with a little bit of versatility. My vr jetta had the best of both worlds, all the important amenities of a luxury can and all the zip of a sports car. Its got 220k on it and its time find a replacement (especially since i will be starting a new job with honda in 3 weeks).

Id enjoy driving the mugen much more (test drivin both) but its missing the refinement of the accord.

With an accord you wouldn't have to worry about theft. Just to add to your pro's list for the accord, and cons for the civic.

haha i dont have to worry about theft. most of the people that live by me leave their keys hanging and back doors unlocked. Im the only person i know of that locks their car in the driveway.

mugen civic literally looks like a mouse on wheels. I would stay away from that car lol especially with the price tag involved.

If you like the look of the new civics...you could take a different model(06-07 Si) that's used, upgrade the suspension and put a turbo on and it will be faster and look better and probably would cost you the same amount.

so $23k for a mugen mouse

or

$23k for a boosted lowered civic that looks like a car?

and all you have to do is get those tilt alarms, pretty much make your car safe from any punk ***

That's because it IS a big car. But it is a car with much more torque, and therefore you won't have to constantly be flipping through gears just to get up to speed. The trade-off of course is gas mileage.

Mugen Si is a thief-magnet...there have been numerous dealerships that have had their Mugens ripped apart ON THE DELIVERY LOT before the damn things could even get PDI'd.

So while you will end up saving gas with a Mugen Si....chances are you probably aren't going to drive it in a gas-saving manner anyway.....it's not what the car was built for. And it certainly wasn't intended to be a car to be used as a 25-min commute daily driver nor a 400 mile round trip once a week. All that bug splatter will ruin the front bumper and lip....which I'm sure will not be cheap to replace either given the type of car it is. Not to mention the stiffer Mugen-tuned suspension.

You'll have a much more comfortable road trip with the Accord. And it won't attract Mr. Ricey Ricerman and his hatch with 18 differently-painted body panels, clip-on exhaust and 10 degrees of negative camber.

i thought about a tsx or a 2 year old tl type s. just a little outside the price range. im looking for something 1-2 years old for under $25k.

i could surprizingly not find many tsx manuals without a billion miles on them. ive only owned manuals and thats the way i intend on keeping it.

While the Accord may seem longer, it actually has a shorter wheelbase.

The Mugen SI will also have a much higher resale value, a couple years down the road.

I can't speak for every dealership, but my dealership had 1 Mugen SI, in it's showroom at that, while it had about 150 Accords on the lot.

that is playing into the decision making process too. I saw no less than 30 accord coupes today and although i saw a billion civic, definitely no mugens. always a fan of those cult cars (atleast until you have to fix them).

im assuming outside the suspension and body kit. the mugen is identical to the si????

+18" lightweight rims, Yes.

I understand your indecisiveness but when it comes down to making the decision, it's yours and yours only. You know yourself better than any of us and have factors only you can define... do I want a bigger car? Do I want a 2dr vs a 4dr? Do I want a less common car? How does insurance factor into this? Long term goals? Kids? What were my impressions during the test drives?

And to be honest, I think you already know what car you're leaning toward regardless of our opinions. I believe you are looking for the one or two remarks to nudge you in "your" direction so you feel good that you're making the right choice.

It doesn't matter what car you choose as long as you are satisfy with your decision. You'll be fine.

At the end of the day, it's a Honda. You're going to be satisfied.

I'd get an Accord in your situation. The Mugen isn't something you're going to feel good about driving every day, in any type of weather condition that may occur.

Hail, Snow, Rain + Only 1000 Made = I'd kill myself

Question: why aren't you considering a standard Si? Why does it have to be the Mugen?

Where are you finding the 6spd Accord EX-L for only $23k? I'd snag that in a heart beat haha. MSRP is like 25k I believe with no options.

Accord > Civic

In terms of the luxury and size and what you get for the price.

im from michigan, i know how to drive in weather.

I the $23k for the accord and the $22k for the Mugen are direct quotes that I got from the dealership.

I could go with the regular si but for the same price why wouldnt you go for the better suspension, kit, exhaust, and wheels? I actually like the look of the 4 door civics more than the coups civics. something about the 2 doors makes it look really bubbly.
