Just take it easy with the gears until you get a feel for the car.

YES! I've done that a couple times and I hate it. I was mad at myself for not making sure it was in all the way before letting the clutch out. I feel a little better now since I wasn't the only one. Though I guess I wish none of us had to deal with it.

if that were true, there wouldn't be as many people complaining ONLY about 3rd gear

I think I unconciously baby 3rd gear because it grinds a little. I was driving to work and when I went to put the car into 3rd with the same speed/force Id put it into 2nd or 4th, It would grind a little. Happened 3 times in a row.

My 2nd and 4th feel solid as hell and are nothing like 3rd so Im having a hard time believing its my driving. If anything I only really shift quickly into 2nd.. I dont do any high speed runs and 2nd is good to highway speeds really.. Iunno.

try to use less force......your hand movement should only be guiding into the next gear....not ramming....kind of let it go into gear on its own terms...this doesn't equate to a slow shift.....just kind of takes a different touch

I have been driving manual transmissions for 10 yrs and the 06 Si I just picked up does the same thing everyone else describing. It is definitely the car.

I will be putting some GM synchromesh in the trans this weekend.

I have never gotten 3rd to grind unless it was my fault. I'm 99% sure it's the same for ALL of you guys but no one's either willing to fess up or realizes it.

From 2nd to 3rd is kind of a long throw, which is why I believe people are letting up on the clutch early (that's what I do).

Why do I beleive that? Because I have the SAME problem as ALL of you guys (only 3rd gear), and it's always because of an early release of the clutch.

yaa man. I thought I shifted to 3rd but then the it popped back to neutral and I revved like an idiot LOL. but the problem with the Civics is that when the car is cold, the gears do not pop in to place quite easily. like someone said above, when shifting to 3rd, do it slower and let go of the clutch a slowly rather than a power shift. enjoy your civics fellas.

I am 100% sure you are wrong. I am not some punk kid that just got his drivers license, it is the car.

okay...sorry for reviving the thread but i have a somewhat related question with the whole 3rd gear thing. I can keep teh notchyness out of it that you guys are talking about but i have another problem. i think most of you will agree that when you shift into third while at a stand still the shifting is like butter after shifting more than once....anyways instead of the notchy feeling...my third did something new....after like two consecutive shifts into third..it feels like metal is rubbing up against itself without lubrication....it seems to only happen at stand stills and not while driving...but yeah....im overly worried about my car all the time and wondered if anyone else has had this issue?

never had a problem with 3rd... sometimes its a bit notchy... but nothing to do with the car (driver error). can anyone post a video of the problem.... just have someone ride along and video you shifting normal and then drive it harder... its easier for other members to belive when they see it first hand. not that i dont believe you guys.

I have been having the 3rd gear grind for almost a month now on my new 07 Si (bought it new in April). I took it to the dealer not long after i bought it because i noticed occasionally when i shifted to 3rd gear, it didn't seem to go all the way in. They drove it and could not get the problem to occur while the tech was test driving it. So they noted the problem and returned the car to me. Now almost 2 months later, it seems to "grind" when i shift into 3rd. It does not occur all the time, but its getting to the point where it bothers me a lot. I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow...wish me luck.
