Default 06' Si, gears grinding from 1st to 2nd gear sometimes

Ive got a 06' Si, had it for about 2-3 months now and I love the car. The only problem Ive had with it is that every once in a while when i tach out 1st gear to about 7500 - 8000 rpms and shift hard into 2nd gear the gears grind. Its only done this 3 times since ive owned it, but theres no good reason why it should do it ever. Anyone have a similar problem or have any idea what this is? Ive seen ppl on other forums that have had the same problem and ive heard that the 6-speed rsx trannys have done this too. I plan on having the dealership check the tranny fluid for metal shavings and take a look at it but I was just wondering what other ppl have done that have had this problem.

Syncro's. Typical Honda issue. Had it happen with my 97 Prelude, 99 Si, and my 04 Type-S. It happens, sometimes it is covered under warranty though

I wouldnt say typical...
All the cars that I ahve owned, with all the motors that they have gone through, I have never had an issue.

Happened to me 3 times and I've been driving standard shift for 20 years...it's not because you don't have the clutch all the way in or anything...it's the synchros....I have
to shift just a bit slower from 1st to 2nd under hard acceleration

If u are reving that high y are u even going into 2nd, how bout next time skip 2nd an go stright to 3rd, but its probly just a synchros problem not clutch or anything, hey it happens but just jump into 3rd

Why would you skip 2nd if you're racing someone? That's the only time I'm running revs that high and shifting fast

You shoul;dn't have to skip a gear...it should work flawlessly

happened to me 3 times too...probably a combination of synchros & trying to shift too fast. If it continues, I'd have it looked at.

Have an answer for everything huh?
Doesn't matter what we do...the gears should NEVER grind if the clutch is in and why should we change our driving to compensate for something wrong with the car?

Thats like saying my gas tank leaks when it's half-full....don't have it looked at or get it fixed...just put 4 gallons in at a time...if you're going to post...put something useful in it

Well we told you what the problem was, so take it into the dealership, it will get worse with time. They might say the damage was caused from abuse though. Since the car is new and no one else has really suffered from the syncro issue, you might have Honda thinking it is abuse. Hopefully not and they fix it for you.

Yeah syncros was what i was thinking too and i know i had the clutch to the floor so that wasn't it, but we'll see what the dealership will say. I dont think they're gonna say abuse because ive already had to bring it back a few times for stupid little bugs that needed to be worked out of the new model and they know there is some flaws. At least i hope they dont. I appreciate all the help and opinions.

I think it is just the way you are shifting. My friend kept on grinding when he went from 1st to 2nd. Then I drove and it didnt do it once. I found out that every once in a while he would pull down to 2nd but at an angle towards 4th. Ever since he has been shifting fine he just pulls it toward him and slams down.

But my friend has a 95 ex where he always grinds it and when I drive it I grind it too. And I never grind in my 92 cx. Its definately the synchros. The thing with releasing the clutch too fast, yeah thats happened to me many times = too fast pedal work before my arm shifts all the way. But I've also tried keeping the clutch in to make sure I didn't do that and my buddies 2nd gear still grinds! so we all know its the synchros

It's amazing how many people complain about this from S2k, TSX, and RSX owners. Just be nice to your transmission. Let is warm up, don't street race and don't jam it into gear.

I'll be honest, I've owned a GSR, a Prelude, and an 05 RSX-S, all for over a year each... and I have NEVER had this problem. Likewise I've never missed a gear, etc.

With the 06 Si, I know exactly what you're talking about, an on the 1-2 it happens... often. You don't feel it in the shifter or hear it like a loud grind, but if you're driving you can hear the sound deflect off a curb or a building and it only happens when doing a fast or hard 1-2 and winding it out to 8100. It's not every time, but it is a problem I've noticed on more than one occasion.

Nothing else is wrong, all else feels and drives fine... but I have never had this issue in any other manual Hondas, including my 05 Type S.

Well when my RSX and Prelude had syncro issues Honda fixed both under warranty due to recalls. But my 99 SI, 03 Accord 6 speed, 04 Accord 6 speed, 03 S2k and 02 SI had no issues with there snycros. Some Honda tranny's are just weak.

lol, it's not the actual "hard" throw of the lever... it's winding it out to red or to 8200 and then shifting quickly into 2nd... there's nothing hard about it, it's like if you shift to fast, even with your foot all the way on the clutch, etc. and it only happens on the 1-2, even if you wind it out just as much and shift the exact same on the 2-3 or 3-4...

I dunno what it is, doesn't always do it, but it does happen sometimes and it is audible. I can't feel a grind, however like I said above, if you're driving with the windows down and next to a wall or a building and do this it's audible.

oh that doesn't happen to me... only if I take it well into the red and shift very quickly. I've just learned to slow it down just a little on the 1-2 anyhow... I just delay thie shift by another fraction of a second and hesitate for a negligble amount and it doesn't happen anymore. but it only happened when I shifted at 8k or above on the 1-2, not at a lower engine speed and not on any other upshift.

You're an idiot.

Hey guys, why buy a gaming computer and use it for games? Don't play games.

Don't have sex with your hot girlfriend.

Don't use steak sauce on a freshly cooked platter.

Don't race your 22,500 dollar SPORTS COMPACT COUPE either.

EDIT: My advice guys, take the car back every chance you get. Don't just ignore the problem. Take the car back and let them know you don't want to hear the grind because you think it's a bad transmission problem.

Don't wait til the warranty is already expired and then have a blown transmission and are s.o.l. YOu have a bumper-bumper 60,000 mile warranty on the power train, USE IT.
