Why does my clutch make a tweeting noise (yes, like a bird)?
When my clutch is pushed in, the car is pretty much dead silent. When I'm in the process of letting out the clutch, it makes a tweeting noise, and I used to think it was coincidentally birds chirping, while the clutch was being let out.
But I also notice that when the clutch is fully out, it makes a constant tweeting unless I rest my foot on the clutch and push it in maybe an inch or so.
What the hell is this? Is it normal?
Matt

The pedal might be loose or just need some lube. Mine used to squeak when I would press it in or let it out, I lubed it up and now its fine. Hopefully that is the only problem you have.

Oooooh no no no.. I'm talking the ****ing motor tweets like a bird (or something under the hood anyhow). It literally sounds like my car has a Volkswagen style diverter valve. tweet, tweet.
When the car is fully in gear driving, it's constantly making this noise. And it's driving me batty.

Could be the throwout bearing, it won't necessarily make a noise if there is no load on it(when your foot is on it) It could also be the beginning of the end for the clutch. How many miles on the clutch?

I suppose thats possible. But it has a new clutch and hydraulic cylinders and all the other typical "new clutch" stuff.
Clutch is not slipping, I'm certain. I've tried putting it in a high gear and flooring it and there is no slippage. The clutch is actually pretty much new also.
The car has 40k miles on it, and the clutch is newer than that. I'd wager 5k miles tops.
Now to be honest, maybe my hearing is just in one of its moods (I'm almost deaf), but it seems as though since I've put the correct trans oil in (gm synchromesh) as opposed to the gear oil that was in it (and shouldn't have been..), the noise has stopped or it's super quiet now.

Isn't a throwout bearing a typical replacement part when you take your car to the dealer to get it changed out?

^Are you really having the same problem?
I've noticed (and this was even before I did the trans swap so it's nothing I did) that often times after driving the car there is a rather pungent odor. The guy at the mechanics shop told me I didn't know how to drive stick cuz he smelled the burnt clutch, but I've been driving stick for about 8 years so I know how to drive. Something about this car smells strong, and even moreso under the hood. The clutch seems adjusted properly... it doesn't catch right away at the bottom, and it doesn't catch right away at the top... and it never sleeps even when under wot conditions.

its not the throwout bearing, because if it was, it would make the noise with the clutch pushed in, and silent with the clutch let out.
all symtoms point to the input shaft bearing.

Is this a bad condition? Because I think it's more faint now.. but not certain. I def. dont notice it that much anymore, and I'm very observant to my car.

Well, the input shaft bearing is typically replaced with the clutch; its come in every clutch kit I've ever bought. Whenever I do a clutch I always do the throwout bearing too, but I don't know if a dealership would. Call up the dealership and ask exactly what they install with the clutch. My initial hunch was a bad clutch spring, but if the clutch is new that shouldn't be an issue. That leaves throwout bearing and input shaft. More than likely, it's one or the other... but my guess between those two would be input shaft bearing.

The only thing that gets me is the car DRIVES EXCELLENT. In fact, if you were to go for a spin in my car, you probably wouldn't even be able to hear this noise.

Re: Why does my clutch make a tweeting noise (yes, like a bird)?
Well I had my buddy ride in it, and he said it's not the clutch.. 100%. He thinks the weird sweet-smelling burning smell might be trans fluid on the side of the trans thats burning off, which makes sense considering there WAS fluid on it. Or he said the fluid inside the trans might be burning (that sounds odd?)
But I think the tweeting might be gone. Pretty sure the new gm synchromesh fixed and and removing the gear oil that shouldn't have been in there.

Re: Why does my clutch make a tweeting noise (yes, like a bird)?
Isnt this due to the clutch master cylinder having no lube/grease left on it making this noise. Many people from other sites who have 7thgens have this problem and they lube it up but it does come back, my car is 'chirping' also and its more annoying than anything else. The only real way to get rid of the squeak is to install a k series motor because they do not have shitty problems like the d17 lol
