Default Tranny slipping??????

Hey all, well im workn on my sisters 04 2 dr civic lx automatic, when its cold it goes into gear and drives fine but after driving some miles (10+) or when its really hot the car seems to rev up even in gear.......What i noticed thou is that when im parked(after its warmed up and starts acting up) if i try to change gears(D4,D3,2,N,R,P) it seems to jus be in neutral like it dosent want to change gears.......would a simple flush and additive help?

No my brother in law didnt use any flush, he put some sort of atf (not Honda ATF) so he drained it and refilled it Honda ATF but i was wondering if i were to get like around 9 qts and jus drain, refill, drive around a little, and repeat(drain, refill, etc) would that help, or can i jus replace one of the solenoids.....

There are a few different solenoids that can be replaced, but you'll need to determine which one is faulty... and that can be a headache.

Out of curiosity, how many miles are on the car / transmission?

theirs around 157,XXX miles, it was driving fine until he decided to "fill" the trans because he checked it when it was cold, assuming it was low(i think ur suppose to check it when the engine is running at operating temp) How many solenoids are their? how would i be able to check them?

there are 3, 2 on the front right of the trans, and another under the thermostat housing...sounds like your clutches just died....i experienced the same problem with my last transmission, even with honda atf.

Indeed, you are supposed to check it while the engine is at operating temperature. Basically, you drive it around, park it on level ground, turn the ignition off, and check the fluid level within a minute or two (90 seconds or less, really) after turning it off.

What kind of ATF did he put in, and how much did he add? You might consider a drain-and-refill. (2.9 quarts)

Skimming through, I see 5. (Three different parts, but a total of five solenoids.) Two shift solenoids, two clutch pressure control solenoids, and a torque converter clutch solenoid.

As far as troubleshooting, you'll need to either buy a manual (Helm's is highly recommended) or have a transmission specialist check it out. It'd likely be a lot less expensive to buy the manual, plus you can always use it for other issues that may arise in the future.

on 7th gens, usually the linear silenoid goes bad. Best to buy it from the dealer. Ive changed over 5 of them in the past year. Its pretty common if it sort of slipping. Should do the trick.
