replaced alternator but a fuse keeps blowing out can anyone help
Hi all help is needed I just experience problem with my 2001 Honda civic lx I took my car to the mechanic and he told me that my alternator was the problem i was having because the day before I was coming home and my dash bored went crazy the speedometer stoped working the battery light turned on and the car started to sound if it was being forced. I thought it was the battery so i took it to autozone and they said it was fineso they told me it was the alternator so then I took it to the mechanic and he told me the same thing so I bought the alternator and he put it on and once I drove it away and 2 streets away from the shop the light turned on again and he saw that a 10 fuse kept burning out so he told me he didn't know what it was so I came here to see if anyone might know here so can anyone please help

Sounds like a short. I had the same issue with mine after i installed a new exhaust header, the spacer i used to remove the secondary O2 sensor out of the flow was to long and didnt leave me with much room between the end of the sensor and the side of the AC compressor, After a few days and a few bumps later, the sensor moved just enough to cut into the 2 wires and caused a short on that sensor.
When that happened, my Speedometer stopped working, my Battery light came on and my 10A fuse for the alternator kept blowing.
After much trouble shooting i unplugged that sensor, replaced the fuse and everything was fine, has been ever since.

as I learned in my network administration classes.....always check the wires first. i had the same problem only to find the wiring harness had some wear due to rubbing and once it was fixed, it was like a new car! and by the way, i would not have known how to fix it if it had not been for this forum...thank you so much for this. i look forward to a long and happy relationship with my 97 civic...gonna make sure she is always taken care of
