"Rattling" noise, looking for input
So starting this past Monday I have a "rattling" noise that has stumped me so far. Looking for some input to what you guys may think it is. Here are the details: sounds like a rattling (metal/metal) I first thought it was the heat shield but was not that. The sound only happens while driving and between 2500-3000 rpms (MT) in all gears. If you are above or below that rpm range there is no noise and if you stay in that rpm range it will constantly make the noise. If you are sitting still an just hold the motor in that rpm range there is no noise. If you down shift and the rpms pass through that range you can hear it briefly. When you first turn the car on and drive for a few minutes, there will be no noise but after those few minutes it will start doing it.
Since it only occurs while driving and in gear, the only thing making much sense right now is the clutch somehow?

I had a similar noise on my 97 accord at the same rpm's. after not being able to find anything I took it to a muffler shop. They told me there was a small crack in the weld on the exhaust pipe that attaches to the exhaust manifold, and for around $400 they could fix it. I went home to see If I could relace it or weld it myself. When I removed the heat sheild bolts I found one of the tabs was cracked. I could not see it until I actually took the sheild off. I got in the car and took it for a quick ride the noise was gone. It might be worth taking a closer look at the heat sheild.
