Question for Canadian Honda techs regarding key codes
Hello. Had a question for the Canadian Honda techs who visit. I know there's at least one here.
I'm a locksmith in Colorado and one of my customers walked an ignition cylinder into my shop that no longer turns. Typical worn out key situation...Ignition was gradually sticking worse and worse and now doesn't turn and the key doesn't work in the doors either. This happens all the time to me. I always start with a factory fresh key before I replace any parts. Since I don't generate high-security keys at my shop I went with the customer to my local Honda dealer with his paperwork. Dealer told me it was a canadian Civic (2003) and they couldn't access the key code. He did, however, tell me he could sell me a key cylinder assembly for around $400 which would have a mismatched key or a complete lockset for $5-600. My customer didn't go for that.
Parts guy said if I could get a hold of Honda Canada, they might release the code to him (or to me since I have all my locksmith credentials as well as the owner paperwork). Tried contacting Honda Canada and got no luck and didn't want to listen to a voicemail system on an international call.
My question is, do any of the Canadian techs on this forum have access to the Honda database that they could look up a key code? If so, I will provide all my locksmith credentials or the contact information for the local Honda dealer here in Colorado Springs so the code could be released to them. I've never run into this situation before and every solution available to me at this point (that my customer is willing to pay for) would leave my customer with two keys which I can't stand.
Any one else run into this situation?
PM me if anyone has any suggestions.
Thanks folks,
Vince
