Hey guys, I encountered a problem lastnite. First my check engine light came on and then about 5 minutes later as I was taking off from a red light, I got at about 4500rpm's or about when my VTEC engages and the car sputtered and shook wierdly.

As soon as I down shifted and was below 4500 it was fine.

Its making no strange noises and runs fine except when shifting and above 4500.

Any possible explanations ?? This is entirely new for me and any help would be greatly appreciated.

You are proably low on oil. Your car is in "Limp mode"---I think that is what it is called.It stops you from going over 4500rpm so you dont hurt the motor.When is the last time you had your car serviced??

Well, VTEC kicks in at 2700 RPM's, so I wouldn't directly tie it in to that. And count me out is correct in that you'll want to have the codes pulled. You can have it done for free at some local auto parts stores (ex. PepBoys, AutoZone, Advanced Auto Parts).

whether VTEC works or not, the rev-limiter for no VTEC kicks on somewhere around 4000 rpms. I know this for a fact, as I forgot to plug the pressure switch in once and it did it, and I've got VTEC manually set to 2200 (yay Kpro).
You've gotta scan the code to see whats wrong with it.
