OEM alarm question/problem 2003 civic
I have a friend that has a 2003 civic with a factory alarm. The type of alarm he has doesn't chirp or sound off if tampered with. His transmitter on his key chain, just locks and unlocks the car. Hence "power door locks".
The problem is when he tries to unlock it with his transmitter, the lights will blink on and off which its suppose to but the locks inside the car will not pop up anymore. Basically the power door locks will not work by using the transmitter. He'll have to manually enter his car now.
I looked at it this afternoon and with the door opened, I tried the switch on the door to see if the toogle will go up or down. It doesn't even work manually. So is there something wrong with the door mechinism or the transmitter? or the whole power door lock system?
He changed the batteries and the transmitter and checked the fuse on the car still nothing.
anybody have this issue?

Try unlocking and locking the car with the door closed. Also can you look under the dash to see if this a real honda alarm or factory. There should be some wires t tapped to the ignition harness if aftermarket.

It isn't really an "alarm" .. it's just Keyless Entry.
Relatively common problem, though. The door lock actuator is tired-out and needs to be replaced.
Mine did the same thing. Worked great, then all of a sudden one day it just wouldn't unlock the door anymore. Didn't matter if my door was open or closed, or if I used the transmitter or the button in the door panel. I can hear the actuator click, but it is too weak to actually lock or unlock the driver's door anymore. Passenger side works just fine.
I just use the key since I'm too lazy to fix it. It really isn't a necessity to be able to lock/unlock my door from afar.
On a side note: You cannot lock or unlock the door while it's open. (unless you're holding the handle in the "open-the-door" position.)
