Default Is My 2002 Vtec Non Interference?

The little fly by night seller of the Civic I bought yesterday says this 2002 Civic Vtec is a non interference engine. The seller runs a auto repair shop, small though. Is this true that the engine is non interference? The car has 117K miles and I have only the seller's word that the belt looked good visually upon inspection.

Thanks. McK-Civic

I thought so too, but this guy was a mechanic, standing inside his own store front B&M shop, when he told me that this motor was safe to lose a timing belt during driving. I guess some people just lie with no conscience thoughts. Thanks.
