Knocking Sound
Hello Everyone,
I am really hoping that you can help me figure this out. I drive a 2004 Honda Civic LX. She has about 63,000km on her and in good shape.
Recently (last 2 months) a knocking/clunking sound after I start the car in the morning and start to drive. I reverse out of my driveway, and drive straight for roughly about 2-3km, it makes a clunking sound it sounds like it is coming from the passenger side. The sound kicks around for about 5 mintues and than the rest of the day it is fine, I can hit bumps, speedbumps, potholes and not even a smidge of the sound that I hear in the am. This sound is coming from the front end somewhere, the other day it felt like it was under my feet.
This seems to only occur in the am or when the car sits for a long period of time. And things settle (whatever that means) this has been frustrating to pinpoint and makes me not want to drive my car.
My mechanic has looked at the car and doesn't see anything that needs any immediate attention, he doesn't want to throw parts at it when he doesn't know what he is fixing.
The really strange part about it is that it goes away and doesn't resurface until the next time the car sits for a long period of time. I don't understand because struts, shocks anything really would make the sound all the time???
any ideas???

Re: Knocking Sound
check your front lower control arms bushing for crack wear etc, its common on those year civic, then check front sway bar links if they have any play they should be solid with no play. my 01 civic lx was make similar noise i changed out both my front lower control arm because wear & tear bushing along with new sway bar links drives normal now.
