intake removal and cleaning
I want to say tanks to all the guys that help me sometime ago, with all their answers for my 2002 civic EX 4door. 1.7L vtec.automatic
i still have the P0401,despite of a new EGR valve, cleaning egr valve intake port more that 3 times, and resetting the ECU.
well i got me a nice civic repair manual installed on my PC and is neat.It shows me how to remove the intake manifold.show me i need to remove air filter case, throttle body, intake manifold, etc.
since all i done before, have not change anything,i decide to give a shoot, and remove the intake manifold and see if it is clogged, and clean it.
my question is to anyone that know or done this is: is this easy(just remove bolts and nuts?)change gasket,o-ring?.any thing i need to look for.i have some experience fixing 1991-93 Honda civic, like time belt, water pump, brakes, tuneup.but this is my first vtec.beside cleaning intake,is there a place in the engine i need to clean also?by removing intake manifold can i clean egr intake port better?
thanks

Re: intake removal and cleaning
It's not as easy as you'd like it to be, but it's not the most difficult task in the world. (removing the intake)
Once you get everything apart, it should be pretty easy to see what needs to be cleaned, especially if it's clogged.

Re: intake removal and cleaning
I just had my intake manifold off and notice a near total clog on the EGR passages of the injector plate. There are two bolts that thread from top to bottom on the topside of the injector plate. The corresponding threaded portions of the plate protrude down into the egr passages and create a narrow point. Took me 2 hours total to do the job, not including time cleaning out egr and mating surfaces (toothbrush and acetone did the trick).

thanks It wasn't me and J bro
J.Bro.....do i need to remove the two bolts that thread from top to bottom on the topside of the injector plate?
my manual graphic to remove the intake manifold shows a injector base is that the same as the injector plate?..by what u said sound like it take more time to do the cleaning than removing intake?...thanks
