02 Lx em2 5spd, Ebay CAI and a Aem cone filter big orange thing at autozone, sticks out about two inches under the car. cruising at about 65 and not using brakes unless absolutely necessary i can get 500+ to the tank, going from upstate NY to Va.
gotta love a honda, loads better then my old 79 Buick la saber, maybe 7 city and 12 Hy.

You just don't know how to drive an Auto ...Just playin. I'd say if you have everything in good working order (plugs, filters, tire pressure, etc...) you shouldn't be getting so bad of mpgs.

new spark plugs were put in last time i was at honda. (a week before xmas) oil changed every 3-4000 miles. have a k&n intake and clean the filter regularly. fluids and belts are good. same w/ injectors.

i have tried to see what my best mpg is by driving like a grandpa and it was 270 miles from F to E.

i use 91 octane. is it ok for the d17? i know 93 burns a lot quicker.

my dads tsx gets 400-450 miles to a tank

anything above what honda recommends is wasting ur money. nicer is better but if it doesn't need it why even use it? did u check ur tire pressure that also throws off mileage. big rims throw mileage off as well. are you carrying weight in ur car because that will also effect ur mileage. try filling up ur tank how he gave the tips .

edit: u gotta understand as well. their mpg could be all freeway or all city. it could vary depending on many things. i wouldn't say to judge to accurately with what others report.

the mpg that u see on cars at dealers, is usually gotten from a test environment so it will not be as high as stated on the window. read from an article.

i have steelies on now. running 30 psi. im a 130 lb kid lol i don't think im weighing it down too much. i do have 2 12' mtx subs but they are not too heavy

ya i read that post. i def will fill up in the morning and pump it on slow.

my buddy and i were actually talking today about what gas mileage we get. he has a 6th gen and gets 35mpg..

ya i know that some ppls are highway only and both highway an city.

like i said i only open the throttle sometimes. i realize i have a d17 honda civic. im not like some of those idiots out there who think their d17 civic can take on a wrx or something like that

i will start putting in 87.. save a little at the pump.. i just use 91 because i thought it was a little cleaner but idk.

i use high mileage oil when i change it.. its an 01 w/ 120xxx+ miles on it lol

i norm just drive to school, baseball and around town. i live like 5min from my school so i don't need to get on the highway really for anything. everything is right around me (i don't live in a small town either lol)

you would think the K&N would help haha but it doesn't seem like it

87 works just fine (according to your manual). The only time higher octane is needed would be for high performance applications (no offense, but yours may not qualify as this )
*IDK how higher octane affects gas mileage, so I'm not sure on that...

KN filter would (in theory) help your gas mileage, so I don't know what would be causing the lower gas mileage.

...maybe driving habits? Synthetic oil can help with highway gas mileage...

IDK

i can't tell u exactly why ur mileage is low but to look at exactly how ur car is driven and taken care of.

things to look at as well: do u gas to 40 when the light ahead just turned red?

do u break and gas a lot rather than just driving at a constant speed.

do u fluctuate ur speed a lot on the freeway?

driving at a constant speed than reving the end up now and then to get back to 65 makes a difference.

a lot of factors that will lower ur mpg so just take note.

i average about 35 combination city and highway. peak highway is 43mpg. all city about 30mpg. i have an intake adn exhaust. 5speed. 77k miles. and i usually run premium (which in colorado is 91 octane cuz altitude effects octane ratings)

02 Civic EX 5-speed ~99,000 miles. I average just under 35 mpg. I've monitored my gas mileage closely for almost 2 years. I lose about 3 mpg with Winter gas.

Check your tire pressures, that's often a big fuel mileage culprit.

i have done that.. they are kept at 32psi

the past few weeks i have been driving conservatively and have not achieved much of a gain in mpg. i have only added 3 or 4 mpg. now idk if i get such shitty gas mileage because i drive 99% city or what. im going to visit a few of my buddies at college this weekend and will be driving 95% highway so i will deff keep track and see what kinda numbers i get.

I have the same problem. I hardly get 300-315 miles from F to E.
Everything that you checked is good on my car too.

When I still had my D17 vtec on a full tank of gas I was able to get 360-370 miles and now that I've swapped I'm lucky if I get 310 per full tank but who am I to complain considering I've grown some ***** lol!

Oh em gee! Did you, like, only drive to your next door neighbours house, or like, something equally crazy? Maybe to the end of your street? That would use, like, almost NO gas!!!!!1

I just joined this site because i was looking for ways to improve my gas mileage and i saw this thread through google.

i have a 2001 lx honda civic with 107k miles.i have a check engine light on so i dont know if that causes my low gas mileage.i fill up every week or 6 days.i get 210-230 miles per tank.
made a mechanic check my plugs and and everything and he said everything is fine.when i did a check engine check at Auto Zone,i got a P0740 code (tcc),anyone know if that is causing this problem?
i live in NYC and i do 5-10% highway every week, and i mostly go 50-60mph on the highway and 30-40 in the city.

any more idea?i filled my tank last Sunday and i've made 196 miles for far and im few bars from Empty.

i welcome any help.i'll check my tire pressure on Monday.this is my first car so i am kind of ignorant about alot of stuff.any advice is welcomed
