ever notice the d17 is noisy.
They arent loud just clickity and mine at certain rpms sounds like marbles in a can. Is that all just the by product of a solid valve train? My valves are adjusted properly as well.

Re: ever notice the d17 is noisy.
Hmm. I haven't personally heard the d17 make this noise. Does it shake when it makes the noise? Did it suddenly start doing it or has it gradually gotten louder?

No shaking has done it since I bought it hasn't gotten better or worse. Engine has always been well maintained. Have every oil change receipt everything from previous owner . Runs great smooth everything just has this noise

Etc = Etcetera. Like "Did you check the bolts one the heat shield and other various parts". I suppose if it has not caused you any problems it's nothing big. You could always have someone look at it. I'll talk to the folks at the shop tomorrow and see if they have heard of anything.

One thing you could do is take a long handle screwdriver and stick the handle end in your ear and touch the tip to different parts of the motor and things in the engine bay like the compressor so on and so forth. Seems silly but it could help you isolate the sound. Just be careful.

I'm sorry if you are getting aggrivated with me. I've only been working with Honda for a short while so I'm actually troubleshooting this in my head step by step. Can you get the stethescope on the block behind the headers safely? Like where the noise is coming from?

No I'm not aggravated. I hear the noise on the head the best on the exhaust side also hear it in the catalytic converter well. But the cat does not rattle or anything...

That's debatable. It does help make a seal for on the header gasket. You said you have had your valves adjusted so I assume nothing was seen under the valve cover. No leaking fluids from anywhere?

Re: ever notice the d17 is noisy.
The two top bolts that hold the shield on, those apply pressure to the headers and gasket to help make a seal. That being said, I have seen both leaking and not leaking from the gasket without the shield on. All in all it's better to have to heat shield on anyways for several reasons. The radiator hoses run close to the headers and various wires and such in the area. The time it takes to put 3 bolts in the really isn't a reason to leave it off. But again, preference. No aftermarket parts on the vehicle?

Not its stock. I could put it on again but I know the manifolds crack alot I figured leaving off would provide it better cooling to help prevent it from cracking... Possibly grasping at straws. I put the bolts back in as well. Just left the shield off . Of you think it makes a difference ill put it back on.

Do I think it will make the noise go away? No. Do I think you should have it on there. Yes. Let me brainstorm and read into this a bit more. How many miles are on the car? I assume it's an EX?
