Does an HX have ..........
I am considering getting rid of my ek for an em2, I am partial to the hx for obvious reasons, but I was wondering if it has or was available with a sunroof, abs, or side airbags? Thanks

Re: (toyomatt84)
great thanks, I drove a fellow students sedan and it is SO quiet compared to my ek hatch. I am considering buying an em2. Why are they so much more quiet? Hers was an 05 lx I beleive with the updated front end, did the updated models come with more sound insulation or do all 7th gen civics have more sound insulation? Did the move towards pacphersion style suspension facilitate any of this?

I went from an EJ6 to my EM2 and i found it quieter and more refined in general. I guess there's more insulation on the 7th gen all round. The 04-05 may have even more though, but i drive an 03 model.

Re: (cbmprelude)
I know that shocks are not interchangable between ek and em2 (what is the offical chassis name?) but will sleeves like gcs carry over?

Vtec would put the hp at 127, not 117. My sister's LX has 117hp, and I know it doesn't have Vtec. Best way to tell, is to look on the left side of the engine block for the code. If it's an A1, it's Non-Vtec, if it's an A2, it has Vtec.
I'm unsure about the GC's, but Endemic has probably the better knowledge on custom springs, because he uses a combination of Accord, Civic (different generations), and aftermarket components to make his car as low as it is.

Re: (fventura03)
well it was just a sort of curiousity, from my understanding the hx has a much lower redline because of much softer springs which help to lower energy losses through the valvetrain. But if the ex is in fact vtec-e, then what are the differences that allow to rev higher and generate more power? Stiffer springs would allow it to does so and avoid valve float issues and would also explain the lower fuel economy. I'm sure ecu work is involved as well. Does anyone have any pictures of an ex head internals? Does the ex inplore the use of a 5 wire 02 and the lean burn equipment that the hx uses?
Anyway, although fventura03s response was rather jerky, it dosen't matter to much, I am just trying to learn as much as I can before deciding which model to go with.

i didn't take the time to read this whole thread, lots of information. my good friend has an hx, i've driven it, and it does seem a lot smoother/quieter then my ex. (enginewise) although it does feel a lot slower then mine.
everything else has already been talked about, no power windows, no sunroof, his doesn't have side airbags, but it did have power locks and cruise control.
and unpainted body parts too.

Re: (fventura03)
this may seem strange and unanswerable, but...noisewise, do both your ex and his hx have say an exhuast or intake that might have adjusted your perception of sound, or did the ex engine itself sound a good deal louder? This is a major concern of mine because my current ek hatch is WAY to loud inside. The engine is stock and I converted back to stock intake manifold and intake piping/filter and retained my stock exhaust, but my efforts yielded little change in noise. When I am driving places with my gf, at standard highway speeds, say around 70-75, we have to shout to hear each other.
Also does your ex have a five wire pre-cat 02 sensor? I am curious to know if the exs have a lean burn mode.
I have read that em2s are cable shifted, but is the clutch cable or hydro?
Also why did honda change to a no return fuel system on the d17? What are the advantages/ disadvantages of this?
Do you happen to know the diameter of the front disc brakes? I am assuming they are all the same except the ex being possible bigger.
Em2s fair much better than eks in front crashes of any severity, but what about side crashes? Does anyone have any experience in side crashes with an em2. Did most exs come standard with side airbags?
The look of the em2 has grown on my significantly over the years, and I might be caught saying that it is now the best look civic generation. Are there any sort of major annoyances you find with the car?

I'm running 100% stock drivetrain, and it's much less noisy than my '93 EX (also stock) was. But, at 75mph, you are running at around 3500rpms in an EX, which is somewhat louder than idle, but not so much that you need to scream.
EX's do have a Lean Burn mode.
The Clutch is hydraulic.
I have no idea why they eliminated the return fuel line, but I imagine it had to deal with fuel consumption.
All front brakes for the Coupe/Sedan 7th gen. Civic's are the same diameter. The EX's didn't get better brakes. All are 10.3in rotors up front with 7.9in drums in back. The EX's had standard ABS, but other models do not have it.
Most EX's do have standard Front Side Airbags, but it was a linewide option, so keep your eyes open for the option.
My biggest annoyances with the EM2 are:
- the front bumper license plate bump
- tiny aftermarket support for the stock drivetrain
- offset options required to "tuck tire" on a lowered, non-rediculous camber setting

Re: (toyomatt84)
I am sitting here looking at my original window sticker from when I bought my car, my owners manual, and the original printout from the website on the specs from MY car, and they all mention NOTHING about a VTEC-E motor. Now maybe Honda themselves are wrong, because they know nothing about their own cars.
Call bullshit if you like. But until I see something from Honda, I am unsatisfied.

No, because I had/have no reason to.
