battery keeps draining
i got my car back from the mechanic with my radio shorted out i changed the fuse and it popped so i took the radio out thinking something was cut so when i removed it i put the new fuse in and everything worked 2 days later my battery was dead and couldnt keep a charge.
so i bought a new battery thinking that was the problem it wasn't it was my radio draining the battery do you guys think it was the fuse i used the original fuse size is a 7.5 but i used a 10 im starting to think the extra volts drained it can anyone help thanks in advance

Re: battery keeps draining
sounds like you have a parasitic drain somewhere...if you can get a hold of an ammeter, measure the current from the battery when the car is off. easiest way is to use a clamp type ammeter on the battery ground wire).

Re: battery keeps draining
It maybe your alternator..If you bought a new battery start the car and it drains because your car is basically running from the battery's power without being charged by your alternator.

Re: battery keeps draining
i had my mechanic check it in front of me and he said it wasnt the alternator so what i did was take the fuse out and disconnect the amp fuse and it solved my problem so thats when i thought it might have been the 10 amp fuse i used instead of the oem 7.5 amp fuse
since i've removed the fuse my car run and starts real good

Re: battery keeps draining
best thing to do put in a 100 amp fuse. it will have a place where you can kill all the power by a switch and you drain on your system will not happen again. works ****ing great on my eg.

Stock or aftermarket stereo system? Running an amplifier?
If the fuse for the stereo is the only one blowing, and the battery stays charged when you don't have the stereo in the car, then there's either a short or the radio itself is junk.
I wouldn't be surprised if he rigged something, though. That way you bring the car back for six hours of "diagnosing the problem" before he takes sixty seconds to reverse what he'd done.

Re: battery keeps draining
unless your leaving your stereo on when your not in the car.
the whole 7.5 to 10 amp thing wont hurt. you have a light or something staying on.

Re: battery keeps draining
Just a thought but. I've never seen a parasitic drain cause a fuse to blow. Fuses should only blow when there's a short to ground or there's excessive draw on the circuit.

Re: battery keeps draining
We have a honda civic 05 plate and our battery keeps draining as well. The Honda garage/mechanics cannot find anything wrong with teh car - can anyone suggest anything.
