Anyone else regret buying their 01?
Does everyone else's 01 seem to be falling apart? I've had more issues with mine that are entirely out of my control it seems almost borderline absurd. I'm to the point that I will probably not consider owning a honda again!
The ECU has died twice, the alternator twice, the radiator leaked around the tanks, transmission input shaft bearing has been replaced 4 times, transmission once, engine broke a valve spring, dropped a valve and trashed the engine, the interior door panels are peeling off, the seats rock like grannies best rocking chair, the SRS light is on, the ABS light is on, the side airbag light comes and goes....seriously guys am I the only one?

i have a 01 DX, other than suspension issues cause by bad roads i've never really had a serious issue, i did replace my clutch cause it was worn out and the ISB was replaced at 110K km's, it had a leaking cam seal when i bought the car. minor.
Right now the only thing wrong is the AC, i just had some lines and seals replaced, now it turns out i also had some kind of Coil in the compressor thats gone as well, thats being fixed today.
Overall i wouldnt take anything back, i'm glad i bought my car, i love it. and my next car will surely be another honda, most likely a 8th gen civic (seeing as my last car was a 6th gen, now a 7th, seems only right to continue the trend)

i'm at 110,000km and mine is still in good shape for its age...
problems i've had:
suspension replaced at 60,000km (partly because i was being picky)
window regulator (autodown was intermittent so it was replaced under waranty)
seat rock
rear knuckle bushings (replaced under waranty)
dash light bulbs
i'm surprised my alternator has lasted so long even w/ the abuse i put it through...
only regret i have is buying the car brand new back in 2002....the thing that would probably prevent me from buying another honda is the price of insurance...around here, my friend's 2006 mazda 3 gt wagon is $800 cheaper to insure...

Yea my car is 100% bone stock, and it seems to be just falling apart. I'm very mechanically inclined so its not a huge deal, but it's a little absurd

i feel you... my 01 is complete trash to. im on my 3rd alternator, 4th time for struts due to leaking and malfunctioning. ive replaced my compliance bushings 3 times. my air just went out. half the time my gauges dont work so i drive with them showing nothing haha. my power on thw windows went out to. i cannot wait to get rid of this car haha. i have learned to wait a year or 2 to buy into a new generation vehicle.

Re: Anyone else regret buying their 01?
I absolutly loved my 2001 DX sedan, bought new in October 2000 drove it 120,000 kilometers in 36 months always on the boards. Other than being on its third set of front struts, and the door panel upholstery lifting in that time, no problems. Except collision damage, broken foglight, cracked windshield, and a final collision with a deer. RIP
Do not love my 2004 DX-G half as much.

thats unfortunate that your car is falling apart.
i've had my share of issues with the hondas/acuras I've owned, but none as bad as yours.
i would be pissed too. There are always going to be honda loyalists who'll never go beyond anything outside of Honda. I say its their loss, there's a lot of good options out there. if you never want to get another Honda, I wouldnt blame you.
just take a gander at the Drifter/TurboAWD crowds. 95% of them were ex-honda loyalists who saw the light. the honda loyalists say "they'll be back" but in reality only a small percentage come back.
I'll admit it, I left and came back, but by then I had multiple cars. no way i'd drive a 13 year old car with 171k miles as my only car haha

Re: Anyone else regret buying their 01?
Most of the issues wouldn't be prevented by a better mechanic...They are just random issues that pop up more often than not. ECU failing because the alternator goes bonkers is a good example of that. Having your car stall out in the middle of rush hour traffic because of some design failure in the electrical system is not something that I enjoy.

Re: Anyone else regret buying their 01?
Just curious if these '01's are mostly US-made Civics. I've always wondered if there is any difference quality-wise between the Japanese cars and the ones made elsewhere. My previous two Civics were made in Japan and served me quite well with minimal problems. My current '05 was made in Ohio and I picked it up only two weeks ago, so I have to give it some time. Comments??

Re: Anyone else regret buying their 01?
Possible...I think it has more to do with the nearly complete redesign from the 2000 to 2001 model year. The previous generations were mostly evolutionary in nature, while the switch to the 7g was a basic redesign from the ground up, and like most first year vehicles they have some issues.

Re: Anyone else regret buying their 01?
I have an 01 Ex with about 125K miles. Beat the thing everyday, but maintain my car really well. Probably why it's been good to me (at least for now).
Problems- random dash and rear deck rattles, suspension problems, notchy 2nd gear (pops out sometimes)
So far nothing major replaced, only routine maintenance and timing belt+ waterpump.

My 02 had similar problems too. Failed components in the first 4 years: SRS module, alternator, compliance bushings. Minor annoyance: B pillar trim popping out. Maybe it is not an 01 thing.

Re: Anyone else regret buying their 01?
Me, i bought a used (150K) for the grandson to use for school. The biggest mistake was buying it from a used car dealer (they all lie big time). I wanted a Honda because they have a great reputation. Well the brakes were gone, so i had the local mechanic do plugs, filters, oil, timing chain etc. and that was only $1500, not bad for the mileage. Then after a month the transmission went out along with both axels. ($2200 more) Now the struts (all 4) need replacting. Now i have a $7K car with 150K miles on it, and it needs tires. GOD will it ever end? LOL.
The biggest mistake was being involved with a used car dealer. I will never do that again.
I put it on craigslist for 5K and can not get a call.
Guess I am stuck with it so i am off to the tire and strut store.
