2005 Civic EX OVERHEATING!! HELP?
Brand new radiator
timing belt changed last week
thermostat hose gets very hot, so i know it cant be thermostat
I see no visual leaks
can it be the water pump? but wouldnt i see leakage if it was?
not sure if its head gasket because there is no oil in coolant, overflow tank is fine.

How many miles are on it?
What's the heater doing? Any loss of heat?
After you changed the radiator, did you thoroughly burp the system to remove all the air bubbles?

replaced the radiator because it was leaking causing the car to overheat, but now that the radiator is replaced, it overheated hours later down the road.

Did you change the water pump?
No, there is no bleed screw. I posted this in another thread, so rather than retyping it, I did the ol' copy-and-paste.
Buy one of these, it will help to thoroughly burp the system. You can probably find one locally, this is just a visual aid. (more or less)

They attach to the radiator, like so ..
Keep it about half-full with coolant and (with the engine running) wait for the radiator fan to cycle a few times and/or until the bubbles no longer appear. Plug it, remove it, put your radiator cap on.. voila.

How bad did it overheat? Do you think there's a possibility that you warped the head and blew the gasket?

I let it ran up to almost the "H" point then i shut off the engine and left the fan running to kool it down.

no, water pump was not replaced.
im thinking its either i got air in the coolant system or a bad head gasket, but there is no symptom of a bad head gasket.

Re: 2005 Civic EX OVERHEATING!! HELP?
its just that the first time it overheated, its because of the radiator. but now that its been taken care of, it still over heat later. only at a stop light or sign.

Other than the intermittent overheating?
Start with bleeding the system.
Are you losing any coolant? If you're losing coolant, and you don't have any visible leaks, then it can only be going into the motor.

nope, i doubt that the tensioner was replaced.
nope, not losing any coolant.
imma start with the air bleed..everything else would of gave out clues, so im thinking there is air.

If you don't have one of the tools I listed, you can park on a slight incline (nose up) and just leave the radiator cap off. (or loosely on)
Then run the engine, wait for the fans to cycle a couple times or until there are no more bubbles. Keep the coolant topped off during this process.

okay new radiator, thermostat works, fan work, just bleed the coolant system and it stopped the overheating..

I'm really leaning on a warped head/bad head gasket.... It'll cost a lot, but I would get it checked... That's the last thing that you have left to do.. I'm currently in the process of that. Our radiators RARELY go bad, so im going all the way.

what kinda ballpark range are you looking at for a headgasket replacement? I realize the gasket doesnt cost much, but i cant imagine it being a saturday afternoon job either. I was quoted at around 1500.

I was quoted around $900. If I provided all the parts, then $480 for labor only. Parts are coming out to around $282.

Re: 2005 Civic EX OVERHEATING!! HELP?
i had the same problem with my 04 LX , checked everything and it turns out to be just the Fan switch. $22 from the local shop and replaced it on my own. Never had a problem again. Check if thats the problem.
to check if its the Fan switch , idle the car A/C off, if it overheats and the fan never went on, then its the fan switch.
