2004 honda civic rattling noise
hey just have a quick question for anyone. does anyone know what could cause a rattling noise? so far its none of the following ive had each done to see if they were the cause... new sparkplugs and ignition coils , new serpintine belts, new air filter... anyone who has an ideai would appreciate it

the timing belt is rubber so it wont be rattling. its hard to tell you anything without seeing it. just start the car up, let it run and try different things like steering left right, ac on and off.

Which heat shield have you checked out? If the rattling sound is originating from the engine bay then I would hasten to surmise that your exhaust manifold cover is loose. (or it may even have an exhaust leak- I'd check for that as well because this can cause a "tapping/rattling" sound at idle and low rpms) I would also check to see if the two covers directly underneath the exhaust manifold cover (ref # 5 and 6 in this Civic exhaust manifold diagram)are loose.
Good luck tracking down the source of the rattling sound- nothing boils my oil more than an incessant rattling noise!

Its either one of the eighteenmillion heat shields or your tires. My bet is a heat shield. Crawl back under and check them all from the header (yes header not headers) all the way to the exhaust tip.
