2004 Civic P0420
Ok from what I read here that means the kitty is most likely toast. The thing I find odd though is this car has 87k miles on it. Isnt that a bit premature ?
Also I understand the factory replacement is about 700$. My wifes friend bought the car from a used car lot(1st mistake). If she has no recourse with them then what are the options as far as aftermarket replacement ? This girl got taken on this thing and I am trying to help her out. I am a diesel truck mechanic so I have the tools to fix it but I dont work on gassers much. In the old days we tossed the cat and put a test pipe on.

p0420 could be the 02 sensor bank 1 in the cat/manifold, did u test the 02 sensor and check resistance. is it vtec (ex) or non cause vtec has a cat seperate from the manifold and non vtec (lx, dx) is the manifold with converter. they make a aftermarket one for like $300 and its direct replacement.
