2002 Civic a/c compressor not running
i have a 2002 civic ex and recently the a/c stopped working. the compressor doesn't engage when the a/c is turned on. i have checked the relays and fuses and all appear good. the compressor has power going to it. i was told by a service writer at a honda dealership to evac the system and replace the thermostat, but that seems like a lot of work for a shot in the dark. any ideas?

Check the pressure in the system. If it doens't have any R134a in it then it will not engage. Go buy one can with the pressure gauge and it will show you if you system is empty.

i checked the pressure in the lines before i realized the compressor wasn't running because thats what i thought the problem was. it was already fully charged...

Re: (civiPete)
I just had this problem . . . it`s the evaperator temp. sensor/compressor cycling controller. Look under your driver`s side dash, at the side of the heat/ac. box . . . it`s a little white plastic oval shaped thumb nut, wired to the system. Turn it ccw a half turn & pop it out, it`s $13.00 at your local dealer. It took me 2 hours of f##king with it to find this . . . it works good now !
Btw:
if you want your a/c to be R E A L L Y cold, just leave it hanging by the wire, & don`t put it back in the case, & the comp. will run longer & make the a/c I C E cold . . .

If you say the compressor has power going to it, check the resistance of the clutch coil. It should be something like 4 ohms. And, if the coil is burned, the clutch may be overworked by a failing compressor.
