The main purpose for epoxy primer is for corrosion resistance, we're talking like 500 hours of straight salt water being sprayed on the metal. If you're painting over an existing painted surface, surfacer primer is perfectly fine. Epoxy is basically just used if your whole car is bare metal from the get go. The gray primer on a Honda that you see on interiors and trunk under the paint is an E-Primer, basically an epoxy primer from the factory, there is no need to put on another layer of it. Unless your engine bay is in salt water or under water, an epoxy surface isn't needed.

lol i was waiting for the debate of epoxy. definately popular in my area. Good friends that i have that do body work swear buy it. and thats what i was familiar with i did some body work in high school. but the debate is endless but i think we can all agree it still works and works good and no one can hate on that.

i dont sand my epoxy at all. i spray the epoxy for the base 15-20 min set time then sprayed on one coat of slicksand. set for 10-15 mins. then second coat. Let it dry. cheap basic black paint i used some stuff a friend had on the shelf sprayed the guide coat on.

I feel the guide coat is needed cause your hand can feel a smooth surface. your eye can see that its a smooth surface. but i want my bay to look great just as we all do so you want to insure the levels of the body work are Level and makes them flow together perfectly.

You can't really block a tight contoured surface though, nor is it necessary as in an engine bay. There are so many curves and crevices that you won't notice anything like you would in the middle of a door. The ONLY place I could see blocking out is the fronts of the strut towers and the raised straight ridges on the firewall. It is honestly not worth trying to block out a whole engine bay nor is it practical, the same results will be achieved by doing it by hand.

My buddy at school had a **** load of runs in his epoxy. I helped him sand them out and it was a pita. Do you have a link to the slicksand? I always hear about it but have never used it my self. Thanks

like you i did alot of metal work. alot of seam welding and filling holes. all the dimples on the firewall got welded in. the intake hole and the washer resevoir hole had plates welded in. A/C and wiring harness holes also welded in. these surfaces along with the strut towers are important to me to be blocked sand. Some say not needed some say over kill I just say its what i want we all have our on lil way of doing everything. this is mine.

Sounds like another ground issue to me.

Also check your flasher to make sure it is plugged in good.

Ha! No Prob. The scene wouldn't be **** if we didn't push each other's limits and passions for the cars we build.

That's exactly why I haven't tucked my bay. It's so much work, and so amazing, and there are new innovations every time I look in this topic... I would be slitting my wrists every time I see new badass ****...

Good jobs guys. I am very envious.

ehhh... this is annoying me...

checked passanger front corner... red was to red, green to green, ground to ground...

now if i have red to red, and black to black, and dont connect the green together then the signal is not on the head or tail light... once i wire the green to the connector though it turns the right signal on the head and tail light... really agrevating... i'm pondering if i should just leave the green not wired and be cool with it liek that... stupid signals wont work hahahahaah

im up for paint tomorow morning, i wish i you guys wouldve had this debate earlier about the whole guide coating or no guide coating before i put one on yesterday after 2k and spent all day today sanding it down. i guess on the plus side it does get it really even when you block it and soft block it, but like was also said.. there are so many shapes and curves to the point that i felt as if most of it didnt even matter, i eventually just focused on the large areas like the shock towers, the firewall and any other large visable surfaces. well all ended well and the surface to me is ready for milano, so hopefully if all goes well i'll have color pics posted tomorow
