If your going to spend the money for an entire primer coating then why not just get it painted? Everything is going to get masked off anyway so it would be easy for the paint shop to spray paint & clear coat.
Otherwise if you want to save money, just buy a couple of primer cans from an auto parts store and DIY.

You'd save a huge amount of money doing it yourself. It shouldn't cost more than $50 in sand paper, sand block, primer cans (depending on name brand), and masking tape. All it takes is time and labor.

if your really planning on primering the car- you might wanna consider jsut painting it while your at it- seriously-especially if your goign to do a legitamate job- if you dont really care then go to it with spray paint for a local store- but if you even thinking about paying to primer - you should think about getting it sprayed as well
seriously- when it comes to paint - its all or nothing-if your interested it really depends on the materials used and how extensive in quality you want your paint job to be-
i know u can even rent spray booths or pay for the complete job-if you want a basic primer and spray- with a standard color it could run around 300-400-depending on if you want the door jams painted and so on

I hope you don't plan on leaving it like that. Primer absorbs moisture and will eventually lead to problems if it's not sealed with paint and/or clearcoat.
