Default Polish or Not?

I picked up some old school bbs rims from a friend of mine for dirt cheap and I just wanted to clean them up. They are three peice rims. I decided to take the lips off and polish them. So I took the clearcoat off today with some aircraft striper. I was surprised how shiny it turned out. Here is a comparsion of each rim. Should I even bother polishing the lips. Or should I just spray a couple coats of clear coat on them and leave them alone. Up for suggestions?

I cleaned the right one and left the stock the way it was when I received them. Do you guys even think I need to polish them with the 320 grit, 600,800,1000,1500,2000 wetsand, and mothers polish. Or could I skip a few steps and move to 1000 grit wet sand.

I am trying to decide what to do with my new wheels. I just got some Blitz type 01's and I don't know if I would rather polish the whole wheel or just the lip and paint the centers gloss black.
