My Blown Motor Pt. II . rod removal . For those who plan to do their first rebuild. Please read.
reason for this thread : For those who plan to do their first short block rebuild such as myself , please don't make the mistake I made and over look ARP rod bolts with the proper torquing procedure. Spend that extra 400 dollars to balance the motor , don't be a dumbass like myself ...
- went to the garage to loosen the rod bolts , I noticed they were barely hand tight.
- rod bolts were stock oem with 200k on them.
- was told by more then a few people to go with ARP
- I didn't do my research therefore I lost a good 1500 dollars...
hard lesson learned.. Although the oil pump can still be the culprit for all of this perhaps the ctr pulley induced the loosening of the rod bolts in regards of lacking a dampener and causing vibrations through the block. 11 thousand miles were on the block.

Makes me sad to see the beast like this, to think I was just in there a couple of weeks ago enjoying the sweet sound of your motor. Damn!

just curious... are you saying this is cause by the ctr pulley?? i dont see how the pulley alone would cause rod bolts to losten...

Do some research on the CTR crank pulley. I've heard it isn't the greatest thing to use, but people still buy it. I haven't read much about it myself, but I have heard bad things about it.

your car is one of my favs. some peopleI know that has used stock has had the same prob with them backing out. I honestly wouldn't trust anything in my engine hand tight. I would personally recommend going with arp rod bolts. Then again your stock ones had 200k on them so that have been the issue. I know several people who used stock ones and have had good luck with them.

um if u followed up on his first thread you will see that he says that the ctr crank pulley could be the reasoning of oil pump strain therefore leading to oil pump failure. he never stated that it had anything to do with the rod bolts.

I know they make one for the K...ATI I think the brand is?
I forget...though it's probably something I need as well since I've done 6 events this year...
and would be going to more if money weren't an issue lol.
