How To Drill Into Rear Bumper Without Damaging Paint?
In Hawaii we've got safety checks every year, and they put 2 1"x1" decals on your car, one for year one for month, so the cops can quickly check if they've expired...
Well, when I got my car painted, I didn't bother to get them put back on, but now they're expired and I don't wanna put them on the paint, so I did what a bunch of people around here have. It's a piece of sheet metal that's the right size with a 1/2" lip that they connect to the bottom of their bumper. I've got the piece, and the lip has a strip of adhesive, but I don't trust it to hold for too long so I want to put a couple of small bolts through it...
So my question is, how can I drill through the bottom of the bumper without damaging the paint around it? Put a couple strips of masking tape and drill through the tape?

ive seen alot of that in hawaii last time i was over there. you guys have a pretty dope import scene from what i saw the 2 weeks i was there. minimal rice, lots of dope *** CLEAN cars... done up right
any ways... if you drill on the underside, you have nothing to worry about. make a L bracket out of sheet metal, drill 2 holes through the under side lip of the bumper and the the braket and bolt it on. i dont think theres anything to worry about as long as your bit is sharp and you dont slip.

I already have the bracket, my question is if it's safe to drill the bare paint, or should I put some masking tape or something on to keep the area around it from cracking...

I drilled into my front bumper last night and no paint besides the actual drill hole was damaged. Just get a good drill with a sharp, newer bit, our bumpers are quite soft and plasticy and are made to flex w/o cracking paint.
Cliff notes: Get a good drill and a sharp bit, dont go ape **** and you wont have any problems.
