I had no idea it was that fragile of a system. Well let me go about it another way then what can I do to make it better then? If I were to get ahold of another intake (VX) and gasket match and debur it would that be a worthwhile use of my time? What if I just debured it? Should I look at replacing anything else to both increase the value and the economy? I'm trying to get help here, instead of telling me what I'm doing wrong tell me what I can do.

Look, I'm sorry about how I went about this. I bought the car thinking I was getting one thing and ended up with something else. I had a plan for a mini-me swap and a few small mods and maybe getting it vinyl wrapped. I had no idea what a VX was and this has thrown my whole plan off. I'm used to having a pretty good idea what I'm doing and now that I don't and I'm staring at this like a 15 year old every time you guys respond to my questions and post I feel like I'm being attacked. It's not your fault, and I'm not trying to make excuses. I'm just used to a different kind of forum and having more knowledge on my vehicle.

Please please please tell me what I need to be doing to make my car correct. I don't want more hp and I'm sorry I kept trying to push for more out of it. I just want to clean it up and make it do what it's supposed to do (good mpg).

No worries!

I have a VX as well. When I get some free time tomorrow I'll post some more info for you, but unless you want to accelerate slowly and drive 55mph in the right lane everywhere you go, if might be a good idea to clean the car up and sell it for a profit. Especially if you only paid $1,500 for it! Then buy yourself a CX and swap the engine or Si and mod it a bit.

Hey, no worries man. We all start somewhere and we could see from your responses that you were not aware of all the integration and intricacies of the systems involved. What wasn't clear until now is if you were getting that from our responses. We can see now, that you are gaining an understanding, which is awesome.

There is one way you can go that will improve fuel economy or maintain fuel economy and give you more power. It won't be cheap and it will also push you into buying premium gas only.

The plan would be to add a small turbo to the engine. To do this, not only do you have to buy all the turbo components but anytime you change the engine, you have to be able to tune the ECU to make use of any of those changes. So tuning fee is about 500 bucks, and it's anywhere from 200-1250 for the engine management hardware depending on which way you want to go.

You could potentially end up with a premium gasoline car that gets 55+ MPG with around 120-150 HP safely and reliably.

However, it won't be cheap and it won't add value to the car. Cars are worth more stock than they are modified 9 out of 10 times.

eH is right, you might be better off just finishing your cleanup then selling the car for 2500 or better as an unmolested VX and taking your grand or more profit and finding a CX or DX to play with.

The nice part is, you will also have a much better idea of what your mods do and don't do all because of this experience when you do get that CX or DX.
