1988 Honda TRX250R Quad/ATV Rebuild Project.
Well, I figured I'd share this little project with you guys and gals. Here is my 1988 Honda TRX250R, which is argued to quite possibly be the best racing quad ever produced (at least up until the release of the new TRX450R 
)
So here she is now. A little knocked down, but certainly not knocked out. I plan on either replacing or refinishing just about everything on her.
I'll try to make this a time-line type of thread, I didn't start any of the work yet, because I'm still waiting on some parts to get in, but for now, here are some pics:
Poor old gal is loosing her stickers, if it weren't for the seat cover, someone might mistake her for a 50R
Or a 25R
Look at that wonderful stitch work (Just about every peice of her original plastic has a crack in it)
Santa came a little early this year, what's in that box you ask?
Her new skin All new replacement plastics from Maier USA
Well that's all for now. For those interested, I'll keep updating the thread as progress occurs. Some replacement parts not pictured are four brand new tires, new headlight and brake light, all the A-Arm bushing, and a few other misc parts to be replaced.

Hahahaha, your quad is badass! The battle wounds give her character! I bet she looks insane when your done! Ive gotta be honest with you people who live near or in the country. Where I reside ya can just throw a leg over your bike and ride. Where I live, ya gotta trailer em up and drive 50+ miles to even be remotely legal in the dirt. You guys are SO lucky!

yeah, there are miles and miles of trails out here, you just hope on your quad and go . My parents have 20+ acres, and most of it is uncleared woods. And all the trials on their property connects to trails on our neighbors property, and so on and so on.
My one neighbor really takes his quad and dirt-bike riding serious, and has his own track set up, the 250R really comes to life on it.
I also have a 2003 Suzuki Vinson 500, but that's more of a work-horse/hunting quad.

Nice quad. The only thing I disagree with is I think the LT250R is a better quad and a lot of guys are faster on them than the TRX but they are both wicked fast.

I haven't decided about the frame yet. I need to look into some powdercoaters in my area to see how much that will cost/how long it will take (I'm sure it won't cost to much)
I'm actually leaving the engine alone. It's got a wiseco piston, and rings, and it still runs as strong as the day I bought it.

Well, I finally got around to getting started on the dissasembly. I came across some hidden damage I didn't expect to have to fix, such as there's a hariline fracture in the swing arm, there's a couple broken welds on the frame, and most, if not all of the bearings are shot (the A-arm bearings, swing arm bearings, etc..).
Well here she is now:
All those A-Arm bushing were completly shot, they were basically pivoting on the bolt
I wish I could have taken some more pics while taking her apart, but my camera was acting up, and just got it working again at this point in the rebuild, so these will have to do I guess (My g/f did have her camera, but it sucks worse than mine, but I'll see if there are any pics worth posting from it).
It might be awhile before the next update because I'm waiting on several parts to come in, and I have to take the swing arm to a welder and see what there is to do about the fracture, as well has have him reweld parts of the frame. Also, one of the tires I bought that I thought was good, has a 3/4 inch cut in it that I didn't know about until after I mounted the damn thing (I guess that's what you get when you buy from ebay)
