I think that's what everyone was afraid of honestly. One of the big appeals of that hatch to me was that it wasn't particularly flashy, it never changed for the better part of a decade and it looked stock (you know, minus the complete lack of an interior or luxuries like winshield wipers, a radio, or doors that lock )

Your hatch was the one that always inspired me to build one Tom, and it inspired me to do it right the first time, and made me realize I could build one and be happy with it for a very long time.
