Walter is super stoked about you tuning his hatch.

...and I would not object to a retune if you insist.

Still jealous of Tom's car, inasmuch as it is the epitome of what we used to be about in here.

It's just awesome to know it's still plugging along.

(So's my ITR track car but that's another long story.)

i still do, i just finished mine this year... lol

yeah tom, driving a civic with stock c5 and driving a semi-built LSv 245whp 150tq is just too big of a difference....

However i definiately give my hats off to you for having self control & not messing too much with something that is already in great condition & balance.

lol, no you don't understand.
for 10yrs i had my same ef and collected about $8-10K worth of parts and it sat in a garage.... for 10yrs

all the local guys always poked fun at me cause I was the slowest to get my car done and too patient (which is true).

Oct 2010, I pulled the trigger and put all the parts which were in boxes and on the self into the EF, painted, shaved, tucked, boosted, tune and it was just completed 8-2011

So for me i'm 95% done with the ef, the only things i want left is a FD, LSD, nice seats, and MAYBE put rods and pistons (stock sleeves) in my spare gsr block and turn up the boost to hit 450ish whp.

I remember what Tom told me a long time ago....2005... he said "I never charged (on CC) any parts that went into my car, all cash. If I don't have the money for it, i just wait for until I have the cash"...... IMHO that is one of the BEST things i've learned form anyone.

I was the same way, I refused to charge any car parts on my cc. It was never worth going into debt building a car. Which is probably why it's taken so long to get it anywhere close to done. Lol

I remember seeing this car when I first signed up on h-t (forgot my original screen name and password). I've always admired your car, and give you props for keeping her thru the years. Don't change a thing, to me, this car is perfect.

Tom, did you do an OEM rebuild on the motor? I'm curious if you ordered it from somewhere and just threw it in and it's lasted 10 years?

Believe it or not I tossed it in 100% untouched. The swap had about 36K on it, and I knew the owner of the ITR before it got rear ended. The guy took care of it well, and it was actually a show car...nitrous bottle in the back (not even hooked up) CL headlights, etc. Heart from a ricer ITR ended up in my hatch(es).

It's a USDM 1998 ITR swap. The engine itself is 100% untouched aside from valve cover gaskets/washers when doing valve adjustments, and t-belt water pump. Aside from that not a single seal has been replaced. I didn't do them intentionally more as an experiment just to see when they'd start to leak.

...still waiting.

See stuff like this makes me grin ear to ear. I'm glad it has had an impact on others.

This stuff maks me laugh. Yeah I've never been one to build something just to turn around and sell it immediately. I'm not knocking those that do, but my passion is for the car and driving it more so than the build itself. Some people have the passion for the build, and then move on to the next build. Some people have no passion and follow trends/fads an they're pretty easy to spot. It usually goes Civic build/240SX drift something/Subaru WRX/STi/Mitsubishi EVO/something with a 2JZ in it haha.

I remember seeing this thread when I first signed up and was still driving my mom's 91 Toyota Camry (Age 17). This was definitely one of the cars that made me decide to keep my car as OEM-like as possible on the outside. It's rare now-a-days to see someone build a car and actually keep it in their possession for years. Props to you man! Geriatric EG drivers will be few and far between in 40 years, but I plan on being one of them right there with you haha.

I remember tom's car from a long time ago at an ATL meet. still simple and daily drivable. Glad the R motor is still kicking strong. My R motor after a few track events and a lot of driving still didn't leak or burn oil.

Tom's hatch was the whole reason I bought a hatch. I screwed up though, I really wanted an Si and bought the first one I could afford. Unfortunately the body is just too rotten. I could fix it (and probably will for this summer) but I fully plan to buy a southern US rust free shell and do like Tom, strip it down to nothing, color change it and put it back together like a 1:1 scale model. It will also be ITR powered. Some stuff I've already bought, Integra RS front brake swap, Integra subframe with brace, Integra power rack (for quicker ratio (all has been installed along with the RS MC + brake booster combo and prop valve) For the most part though the parts I've bought at sitting in boxes in my room or in the garage. I don't want to half *** this build, I want to put everything on new, all one once. New OEM front lip and JDM thin side moulding already purchased and waiting. Also managed to score a very rare set of OEM EDM foglights, brand new in the box. The goal is something that looks showroom fresh and OEM. No aftermarket mounts, no wire tucks, no shaved bays, just clean and OEM.

Btw Tom, really glad to see this thing is still together and basically untouched.

I'd love to see what 7-8 years of advancement in tuning options/solutions can do, especially since Tom's car hasn't changed a bit.
Great experiment... for science!

It went great and Kenny is the shiznit, but I don't want to hijack this legendary thread so I'll stop here.

...and I would not object to a retune if you insist.
We must find a few people in GA to justify Kenny flying up here.

Hit me up when you're ready man. I think I'll be able to sell my brother's unmolested 95 Hatch sometime this year.
I'd love to see the kind of build you could do with it!

Thanks man, I've got a year and a half left of school, then I should be making money to spend on stuff like this. Whenever this thing gets done it will be nice. No shortcuts for me and when it's done it's done, it's not going to turn into an ever evolving project.
