We've had a Command Start remote start system installed by the dealer about a year and a half ago. Recently, the car will flash lights and crank but will not start. If we get in and use the key it starts fine. This leads me to believe that the bypass is messing up. I gave the dealer a valet key to use during installation. What I need to know is where is this key??? I've pulled the cover off the under side of the dash and can see a black box about 5" X 6". Two larger harnesses come off this and one goes through the fire wall, and the other is used to make various connections to existing wires under the dash. A small connection is for the antenna. I cannot find anything under the hood where the wires are coming out. So if you can let me know if the wires go to another box or just to various connections I'll not waste my time looking further under the hood. I want to locate the Valet key, remove it and clean it and the contacts to see if this fixes the problem. So, anyone install one of these systems, any system, and can tell me where the key is?? Accompanying photos would be awesome.

this is going to be completely impossible for one of to answer. i know almost every installer puts his/her key hide box somewhere different. and most alarms key boxes are different sizes. i know with the alarms that I install, the remote start brain and the key hide box were two different units. i'll try to explain the method for finding the ones i used to use, and maybe it will help. find the main alarm/remote start brain. coming out of it there should be two harnesses (one large, 12 wires or so, and one smaller, 5 wires or so.) trace the smaller harness all the way to its end and you should find the key box.

i have had this problem with remote starts before and had to reprogram the key. i cant explain why, but sometimes they seem to like to de-program themselves.

Thanks Skeeter, that's what I finally found out after hours of searching. Just had to hit on the right Google phrase so search. Knowing I have to follow the smaller harness narrows it down and I can find it I'm sure. Does it depend on the type of system as to how one re-programs a key or is it a matter of just taking it out and reinstalling it?
