2005 Accord Auto Trans Flush Issues
I changed my auto transmission (V4) and now I am getting some slipping between 1st and 2nd gear.
I think I followed all of the proper procedures, so this new behavior is baffling me a little bit.
I have 68K miles on the car and have had all required maintenance done at the local honda dealer. the only one I delayed was the trans flush from the 60K service.
I drained out the trans fluid on level ground and put in 3qts of the Honda auto trans fluid. I checked the dip stick afterwards and a few days later and it looks to be within specs.
what could I have missed? Or is this new behavior because I dislodged a lot of dirt? I don't think the trans fluid has ever been changed.
Should I drain out more and put in new fluid again?
It seems to slip when I am going up an incline. would this indicate that I need more fluid?
Thanks,
Damon

Re: 2005 Accord Auto Trans Flush Issues
when I took off the drain plug there was a small amount of material, nothing that would bother me.
what's weird is that I've measured it now twice in the last two days and the oil mark appears to be about 1 inch over the top hash! I'm not sure how this happened, but it looks like I have way too much oil in there. I thought where I drained it was on level ground... maybe I didn't warm up the engine enough? regardless I will go buy more fluid and a new washer and retry the operation this weekend. I'll check the dipstick after I drain and see where it really measures.
would too much oil show the same signs as too little?
Thanks,
Damon

Re: 2005 Accord Auto Trans Flush Issues
Yes. If the level is too high the gear sets in the transmission may be coming into direct contact with the fluid causing it to churn up the fluid. This can cause the fluid to aerate, which would then make the fluid less effective as both a lubricant and hydraulic fluid. It can prevent the pump from being able to move the fluid around, not allow correct operation of the components, and cause undo wear if improperly lubricated.
