Default 2003 accord cruise control

Hi, I have a 2003 accord ex. The cruise control will not stay on. If you hold down the button on the steering wheel, cruise will work. Release the button & the light goes out & cruise shuts off. Any ideas? Thanks, Tim

Meals.. Did you ever get an answer to your problem? I have the same issue with my 2004 LX V-6 Accord. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would check the fuse for it first then check the resistance on the Cruise control button switch but I think you might have to take off the Drivers side AirBag Module first to get to the Switch. But since you say you have to hold the Button down to get it to work I bet its the Cruise button Assembly. That possibly has to be replaced.

'04 6MT cruise button went out on me as well.

First step, check the fuse. If the fuse is good (which it almost undoubtedly will be since cruise will work if you hold the button down), it's probably a physical problem with the button itself. In my case, the nodule that would "lock" the cruise switch in the on position had been worn down so far that the button would no longer stay on.

I replaced the cruise control switch assembly in the steering wheel (Part # 36770-SDA-A01, ~$40). It's really simple. There are a couple of screws you can access behind the steering wheel that hold it in place.
1. Unscrew those (be careful not to lose either of them inside the steering wheel itself. I did. You'll never find it unless you plan to take your steering wheel apart). These screws don't actually come out all the way, iirc. They've got a washer on in the inside of the steering wheel that won't actually allow the screw to come out further than it needs to unless you force it. DON'T force it. Just unscrew it as far as you need to in order to get it free from the old switch.
2. Pop the old switch out of the steering wheel
3. Unplug the cables from the old switch
4. Plug the cables into the new switch
5. Screw the new unit onto the steering wheel
6. Drive. The finish will look a little off right at first, but mine only too about 6 months or so to break in and now I can't even tell it's a new switch.
