Default what to look at for accords

only really familiar with civics and integras.

we are going to look at 98ish accords.

we are going to stay with the 4cyl automatic sedans and with ex trim level.

what should we be looking at on these as typical failure signs/glitches/etc.

such as failing power windows, etc??

just dont know the general problems associated with the accord models for this bodystyle...

First you wanna make sure the ignition recall was performed on the car. And check to see if the tranny has been replace or at least inspected by honda. I own a 00 sedan auto and my tranny, like many other 98-02 autos, went out on me at about 47000. they are flawed by design and almost guranteed to go out although some may disagree. Aside from the tranny I haven't had to to do anything aside from basic maintenance and Im already 7 years in

would be nice but we're looking for the fiance's sister and they are simply out of her budget at this point. as it is, she's going to be rolling $3k negative equity in which she can barely afford. I got some stiff negotiating ahead of me on her behalf lol.

how can I check the tranny replacement?? will it show up on a carfax?? most dealers take all the service records out of the vehicles when they clean them if they came as a trade or whatnot...

If it was replaced under the extended warranty any dealer should be able to tell you with the vin #. Either that or just buy a stick and avoid all problems transmission related. When mine goes I'll either get a stick or an f22 auto tranny because its not worth it to keep spending 2k on a new f23 auto tranny.

I have to be honest about this, you say it's a tight budget, so really you'll get better value for your money if you go and find a 97 Accord with around 125-150k miles on it. Those engines and trans are built like a freakin Tank, bulletproof, leap tall buildings in a single bound.

My feelings are like this; "You couldn't chase me fast enough or far enough to Give me the keys and title to a 98-99 Accord with auto trans."

Id get a 94-95 over any. The 98-02 have stupid issues and are built very poorly. Little **** goes out like bulbs and such. I never had any tranny issues with my 98 at 145k.

stick owns her sister

just one of those people incapable of shifting I guess.

so the 97 you guys say is bulletproof??

will the transmission from one drop right into a 98 when the transmission goes out and then we would be ok??

that's a viable option to me.

I can try to talk her into a 97 but I'm pretty sure she's gonna want to stick with at least a 98 due to mileage. cant reason with women too well you know.

trust me on this one..... becuase if the trans fails, you may or may not get assistance from honda....and those things are not cheap to repair......I am speaking from experience.........

well, I've already heard up above that an earlier 97 type trans will bolt in as a replacement and I have no problem doing the wrenching so if that does pan out to be a viable alternative then we'll still look at the "bad trans" years and just go ahead and get a spare tranny for when it happens.

gotta look at it from all angles.

anyone have any more info on the 97 f22 trans into the 98 f23 car??

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of press.
It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech.

It is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protestors to burn the flag.

If you can read this, thank a teacher.

If you are reading it in english, thank a VETERAN.

Stackz, that's the most awsome thing I've read. Sorry to be off subject, but DAMN!!!

I have a 98 accord, stickshift, 109k miles, and zero problems (besides that loose elec. harness that stumped me for a day and a half). I highly recommend that she learn how to drive a stickshift. Besides...they're way funner to drive!

although i love my stick 97....i had to replace the tranny at 105k. this was most likely due to the previous owner not knowing how to drive stick (or beating the **** out of it). however after i forked over the grand it cost me for a practically new tranny/clutch...its beautiful AND drives.

the reason i went with 97 is because i heard 6th gen had tranny issues, especially auto....but your taking a risk with any 10 year old car.

also, in response to your wife's/girlfriend's concern of getting a car with higher mileage the older it is....that is often not the case. It really depends with every car so I would not rule out 5th gens becase "they generally have more miles on them". thats dumb.

yeah mileage doesnt really seem to be a legit decision factor on hondas, if a part is gonna **** the bed, no telling when its gonna happen...

but hey i got a 2000 accord, EXauto f23a1, the tranny is wetawded, i dont like having to use d4 and d3 all the time since the damn tranny things its a good idea to put er in 4th to go 20 mph, on the way home--school/back its like constantly going between 3&4, ittl only be in 4th for one second, then have to down shift so i can turn, stupid POS!!!, good thing its so easy to move the lever between d3 and d4 quickly...

read it right here:

done a little searching afterwards and seen some questions posted on doing this. not a lot though since most people go stick on the cars.

I just wish people would quit trying to tell us to either switch to stick or buy a stick. not gonna happen, just help us with the auto questions...I know there's others in the same boat.

I have heard that the v6 trans sucks also. If that's true then dose that mean that the trans in the 2000 TL sucks also?
