Unknown starting problem
I have a 1991 honda accord wagon (ex model) with a starting issue. A few weeks ago when we last had below freezing (around 2° F) weather I parked my car in the parking garage by my work and started my shift. When I came out a couple hours later my car started fine. I sat there with the engine on waiting for the heat to kick in. When I went to put it in reverse it died. Tried jumping it, but with no luck. Because of the cold weather, I thought it might be a fuel line freeze, so attempted putting gas and Heet in with also no luck. I have done some troubleshooting and have hit a dead end. Heres the symptoms:
-Fuel pump active and definitely sending gas.
-Getting Spark
-fuel relay is good
-fuses good
-starter functional
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Unknown starting problem
If you're certain it has fuel, I would think maybe it has only weak spark and not strong enough spark to jump the gap. Is the spark bright or bright blue ? If it's orange it could be too weak.
If it has strong spark and fuel I would think maybe the engine has jumped a tooth. I would check the mechanical timing. If that checks out I would run a compression test to be sure that engine is in good shape.

What else can you tell us about the vehicle? does it crank? any noises you havent heard before? I had an auto that would do odd things like that. Put it in gear and it would shut off. I believe it was an issue with the tranny engaging and the motor not idling correctly or the neutral safety switch. My manual swap has given me no issues like this since.
