Default Tokico struts?

What do you think about replacement of the stock struts on a 90 Accord with the Tokico blues on ebay? They cost 274.00. I'm on a budget and I'm considering Adding the polyurethane bushing and the Tokico struts for a better handling experience around curves. I am also trying to avoid lowering my car, thanks.

Tokico Blues are considered to be OEM replacement shocks, not really an upgrade. You'll still probably notice a difference if you get these installed, but it'll probably be only because your old shocks are tired and worn out. If you're looking for an increase in performance, look at either Tokico's Illumina line or KYB's AGX line for adjustable shocks that are made for increasing performance.

Fair statement. I had both Blues and KYB non-adjust.

Go with the Blues. IMO, KYB was more "stock" like. At least Blues felt like some OEM "performance."

Cliff: Would not buy KYB non adjust again. Would buy Blues again.

I have tokico blues on my accord and they take a tonne of abuse on rough Trinidad roads... Also find them pretty good for my harsh driving style.. keeps things under control..

Never tried illumina but i'll look into it

Last gen Surpras OEM shocks were Tokico. Tacoma continue (?) to used them. Currently I'm not sure which Toyota products still use them.

I've heard Koni's STR Orange's blow these out of the water, but no first hand experience with the Oranges yet.

All I know is that the Tokico blues are not meant to go any lower than 1.5" of a drop or else you'll blow them quick. Mine's still riding nice and smooth; its almost a year now that I have them.

yeah, i'm going with the majority here. tokico blues are a really good shock. tokico illumina's are nice too, but if you are on a budget, these are not the shock for you, lol.

Ditto on that. There are more choices today for a mild drop. In the old days, we are limited to (HR) Sport and Race springs (1.75-1.5, 2.25). Blues lasted about 70K miles on Sport springs. (97 Civic).

One bad shock end up damaging my tire and I had to have them all (might as well) replaced.

Two advice.

1. Keep your warranty card. I believe the shocks have a lifetime warranty (something like that). Why not make the honor it.

2. Know the life of your shocks, and watch it regularly when the time is near. Then again, this is the 90-02 Accord section and I don't know how long you'll keep your car.

friend of mine has tokico blues, idk what brand coilovers. been running like that for quite a few years now, and he has no problems. so i disagree with the fact that they are only good for a drop of so much. i've seen d2's, koni's, and other "top top" brand's fail already. its been talked about in the suspension forum already.

From what I have been reading when I was doing research, Koni yellows are #1 followed by Tokico Illuminas. Since the Konis wouldn't fit my GC's I went w/ the Illuminas. Considering they were $550 they better be good! But no problems so far.

I'm of the mindset that if you're only going to be riding around on the street, any adjustable shock is probably overkill. So in that case, the blues would probably be fine for what you want. As far as them wearing out prematurely, the rate of your springs are really what determine how much wear and tear the shock will see, so make sure to get a set of springs that are made for the street and not the track.

Ground Control has 3 diff versions of Ground Controls for the 5th gen Accords. One is designed specifically for the Koni Yellows and the other are for various other struts.
