Remove it and throw it in the garbage?
jk - try checking the physical position of the button (Did coke spill on it, causing it to become sticky and therefore causing the button to remain depressed?)

Try a different tape - could be that old Pat Benetar tape you have in there could just be worn out (tape material can stretch over time, causing errors)...
Or, sometimes issues like that mean the motor is going bad...
