Default SRS Module Replacement

Hey folks, total newb here who need some help.

95 Accord Coupe. Get an SRS light a few weeks ago, my shop diagnoses as code 5-2, need new module. They quote $1K to replace. I go to a wrecker, get a used module for $125, replace it in an hour (following shop manual). No problems with install, think I'm the king, but still have a solid SRS light when I start up. Reset the MES, get two flashes. SRS light goes out. 5 seconds later, it comes back on solid. I repeat twice to make sure it's not the reset that is the problem. Same result. I re-run the codes and it's still 5-2, which the manual says is internal failure, replace module. But this is the new (used) module.

So ... is it possible that I introduced a used module with exactly the same error code? Or is it possibly a flaw somewhere else in my system?

And am I correct to think the error code originates from the module? In other words, by replacing the module, I shouldn't even need the reset, because I replaced the memory too?

Help.

You will need to reset the SRS module when it is replaced. If you are following the SRS reset in the Honda service manual (or listed in many posts on the net) and the SRS light comes back on after doing a reset then you got a bad module or maybe you got the wrong module. Check the part number on the one you removed against the replacement you got from the wrecker. If you got one from a different year Accord chances are it will be a different part number and won't work properly.

Thanks ex-r, will double check numbers on the modules tonight. The wrecker figures it's a harness problem, but that doesn't jive with the error code.

I have the same code on my 95 EX. I bought a used module with the exact same part number which is necessary. From what I understand there were several sources Honda used and each system requires a certain module. Also, if you decide to buy new, Honda came out with an updated module which replaces all the different types and is less sensitive to failure.

I tried the used route twice and both were bad when I got them. Saving up for a new module now.

The manual list three manufacturers with different part numbers but identified by codes M1, M2, M3. Both of mine are M1. I'll guess I'll try new and see if that fixes it. Even with the cost, I'm excited that I can save the $450 labour I was quoted for a job that took me an hour. Even doing it twice, I'm ahead of the game, assuming it works.

update: it took me a month, but took the defective part back to the wrecker, he gave me another, swapped it out, and works like a charm. BTW, the error code is stored in memory on the module, so no need to reset. Just plugged it all in, hooked up the battery, and the light went out on its own. Life is as it should be.
