i'm having the same problem with my 01 Accord..I seems like the 6gen needs to have a recall or something. If it happens to one car than maybe something's wrong with that car but it happens to a lot of people that i know who have accord also. Anyways, i found a way to fix my SRS light and it sure did turn off.

To erase the DTC memory and reset the SRS indicator light, first locate the yellow plastic Memory Erase Signal (MES) connector:
-The SRS connector is plugged into the upper right corner of the driver's side under dash fuse panel or behind the driver's side left kick panel.
The two wire color combinations found housed in the MES yellow connector should be as follows:
-2.2L engines: Gray/Gray or Black/White
-2.3L engines: Green/Green or Black/White
-V6 engines: Green/Green or Black/(light green-black)
Once the MES connector has been properly located and identified, proceed as follows.
1. Verify and make sure the ignition is switched OFF.
2. Connect the 2 pins in the MES with a paper clip or metal object.
3. Turn the ignition switch ON.
4. The SRS Indicator Light should come on for 6 seconds and then go off. Remove the (paper clip) within 4 seconds of when the SRS Light goes off.
5. The SRS Indicator Light should come back on agian. Reconnect the (paper clip) within 4 seconds of the time when the SRS Indicator Light comes back on.
6. The SRS light should go off. Remove the (paper clip) from the MES connector within 4 seconds of the light going off.
7. If the process was succesfull, the SRS Indicator Light will blink two times.
8. Turn the ignition switch OFF and wait 10 seconds.
9. Turn the ignition switch ON and the SRS indicator lamp should come on for 6 seconds and then go off if all the codes have been successfully cleared.
10. If the SRS Indicator Light does not go off, repeat the erasing the DTCs procedure. If after several attempts to erase the DTCs the SRS Indicator light stars on, use blink codes to help locate the problem in the SRS System. Inspect and make sure that all the components and electrical connectors are properly installed and connected.
11. Once the DTCs have been successfully erased, reinstall the yellow MES connector to its holder in the fuse panel.
This documentation comes from: Chilton's Honda Accord/Prelude 1996-00 Repair Manual. (Covers all US and Canadian models of Honda Accord and Prelude.)
I hope this helps solve the tempromental SRS Light that alot of us have problems with. My SRS light was on for 6-7 months of owning the car, the previous owner wrecked it and had everything repaired by a qualified shop, but the shop didnt reset the memory for some reason. And supposively dealerships couldnt find the problem, because there wasnt a problem, just needed the MES reset. If this guide doesnt solve your problem then take it to the dealership and have them read the trouble codes coming from the SRS light, because its very important to have working airbags, if this light is on, your airbag system is disabled.
Airbags save lives.

Hope that helps.

Hello

The same here. Honda Accord LX 2000...for no reasons whatsoever, the SRS light is on...went to the dealer and they say it will cost me $960 to replace the entire SRS unit....
Who is saying Accord are reliable and safe doesn't know what is talking about.

Accords are crap cars.

Why don't you try the method that i've provided?? Try it first to see it will get the SRS light goes away. A lot of people have done this and it goes away (but some aren't). 960 is toooo damn expensive. If you can't turn it off the way i told you, then i would just either cut off the light source to make it go off or leave it light that instead of spending almost a K for just a Light. Yes, it's better for you to fix it cause it might cause your Air Bag sensors not to work but if you try to drive and then pull your seat belt fast to see if it will tighten--then the SRS sytem works fine, it just had to do with the light or wires problem. Again, try that method first and let me know.

Had the SRS light come one on my 1999 Accord LX 4cyl after I had the timing belt replaced. I know, I know... a timing belt has nothing to do with the SRS system, but bare with me.

Knowing the battery was disconnected during the rework I thought that might have had something to do with. I used the jumper procedure as documented above and elsewhere on this site and it cleared the light. The next drive cycle the light came on again. After that I decided to have the dealer pull the codes for me. The dealer found a "Low Voltage" code. They ran the tests on the system and reset the computer for me. The tech told me that they usually see this kind of thing after radio installations. Could be a line of bull, but the light hasn't come back on.

As for Azndude1983's suggestion of chekcing your SRS system by seeing if the seat belts tighten after a quick stop..... NO, UH-UH, NADA, NO WAY.... That is a mechanical system, not an electrical system tied to your airbags.

Have your dealer pull the code from the SRS system before you do anything else. The code should be able to tell you if it the SRS unit itself or one of the sensors.

see, i told you something has to do with the seatbelt or the sensors. That's exactly what Wowwee says. I mean, yes it's better to have a professional look at it then you or me as a noob on electronic devices. But as the procedure that i've posted above, it made my light goes away so i thought i could share it w/ you guys.

Default Ergh

Hey OK so I go through the steps, I pass step 5 but i cannot get step 6 to work -

6. The SRS light should go off. Remove the (paper clip) from the MES connector within 4 seconds of the light going off.

The light remains on, i have read 4 different procedures written including this one

http://www.geocities.com/myintegra96/srs.html

and couple posted on the board, to make sure i have done it right, but none worked.

Any ideas why?

I ignored the 4 second thing and pulled out and in as fast as i could and then it worked. It was more like a 2 or 1 second window.

Don't try to fix SRS light yourself - It's a lifetime warranty by Honda!

My car has 130K miles and 14 years old and I just took it to the dealer last week and they fixed at no cost. The problem was "faulty driver's seat belt buckle switch"...after they replaced both front seat belt buckles and clear the code and the SRS light is gone now.

I just did the reset procedure and it appeared to have worked so thank you for that. Now if the light comes back I know that it's probably just the faulty belt buckle switch and will take it straight to Honda. As others have said the airbag system is not something to mess with yourself unless you really know what you're doing. Airbags scare me as is, the possibility of one going off while I'm messing with it is enough for me to take it straight in. The reset procedure seemed easy and safe enough so that is as far as I'll go. Thanks guys! 👍👌👏

I have a 2000 SE Accord 2.3 motor. Does anyone have a schematic for the SRS system? What I want to know is how the logic plays out. Occasionally my SRS light comes on (Driver side buckle code). After I reset it the light may stay off for months but eventually does come back on.

My questions are while operating normally (no SRS light on), will the airbags deploy while seat belts are not buckled? Will both driver and passenger side deploy if no seat belts are buckled?

How does the micro switch in the buckle/receiver function? Other than being a simple switch that deactivates the seatbelt reminder light in the instrument cluster?

My car has a salvage title, so the dealer will not replace the buckle for free.

thanks,

-William

That was also happened to me. Specially on the v6 models, the engine with other stuff cause a tough space to work. In order to create more room to work, the mechanics may remove front bumper and the hood with other lots of stuff for changing the timing belt (that is why it takes quite a time). During this removal, if they did not remove the battery connections, touching the srs sensors might cause the SRS light on. The method that Azndude1983 offered works great mostly. So I can recommend this.

My wifes 98 had this issue. I threw caution to the wind, got a new srs computer from a junkyard and it worked like a champ.

I avoided the path of the airbag during every step just Incase the airbag came flying out of its home with my body as the intended victiim.
