Default Parking lamps don't work, but healights do.

What's going on people, i would love some serious insight. I just recently bought a 99 Accord LX 5-Spd coupe. I cant get the parking lamps to come on, only the headlights. The instrument lights don't work, no radio, no clock, none of the interior lights work, and no license plate light. The break lights and the reverse do work, so do the blinkers and both power windows. I checked every single fuse under the hood, and both of the interior ones, they are all good. I replaced the headlight switch and no difference. I ripped apart the interior and found nothing wrong with the wiring on the fuse box, saw the obd plug and a slim 4 prong plug unplugged but couldn't figure out where it goes since it's fairly short. I'm really stumped because some of the stuff that runs on the same fuse works and the different acc with it doesn't. How can 2 things run off of one fuse and one not work? My only option right now is to bring it to the dealer and dish out a hundred bucks for them to tell me whats wrong with it.

Most likely this is related to a 'Small Lights Fuse' (at least this is the name in the 94-97 Accord) or could be related to the dimmer switch.

I think i remember seeing that on the pass side fuse box. but as i said, i have checked every single fuse in this car. By "dimmer switch" do you mean a relay? I have 2 Lighting relays under the hood, I switched them around with no result.

Replace the "running lights" fuse anyways. See if that fixes it. My 12v auxiliary port hasnt worked for the past 2 years because the fuse was "good" when it wasnt, I thought it was wiring.

As for the dimmer switch, I THINK this happened to me about 3 years ago and I grounded that switch the the chassis and it worked fine. I was looking under my dash and saw it grounded, I removed the ground and it wouldnt work till I grounded it again.

By "dimmer switch" do you mean the **** on the dash? Or is there a relay under the dash?

Did you use an actual fuse tester or did you eye ball it?

The dimmer switch on a 94-97 Accord is an actual separate piece that sits to the left of the steering column and has the adjustment **** on it. In the 98-02 I believe it's integrated into the cluster and references a relay further down the chain. The actual unit would be in the driver's kick panel area - think it may be called the BCM?

I pulled them and eye balled them. I just got an assortment set so I will replace them all tomorrow. I replaced the small light/license light fuse on the pass side and it made no difference. I'm thinking maybe both the Lighting relays under the hood are shot, I should probably check them tomorrow too. As for the dimmer, yes its right under my tach on the cluster. Should probably consider the ignition switch too. Either way, Im going to have time tomorrow.

Be sure you check fuse 10 in the passenger's side fuse box, it's a 15 amp fuse. It feeds power to the headlight switch. I would then make sure I have power on the red/yellow wire at the headlight switch. If so, check for power on the red/black wire at the headlight switch with it switched to on. If you don't have power on the red/black wire with the headlight switch on, check the taillight relay. Let me know If you have any questions.

**** on the dash. Like I said I did this on my Civic, but its the same concept. Dimmer switch that brightens or darkens the lights.

Its grounded, and now all my lights work. If I remove the ground they die. I have no idea why I did this but its done.

That was the first fuse I replaced, it made no difference. It seems to be a bigger issue than that. All my wiring looks clean, but something's not right. I'm getting power in random places on the fuse board(pass side), the windows are the only things that work on that side. It leads me to believe there is wire or a relay that connects them all, possibly the fuse box or maybe something as dumb as a missing ground. None of my lighting works, nothing. just the headlights/high beams and the brake lights. I also replaced the headlight switch with a working one, off of a '00 accord. I'm looking for the wiring diagram to see where the power leads on the box and see if i even have any power there.

Ahh, if you're having additional issues it could be the multiplex

You need to be more specific when you say things like " you have power in places there shouldn't be". I'm trying to provide you instruction to help you locate the source of the problem.

1). Check power on the red/black (red wire with black stripe) at the headlight switch with it switched to "on" or "park". You should see battery voltage.

On DX and LX models, power leaves the headlight switch on the red/black wire then splices before going to the passenger's fuse box as well as the driver's fuse box. Power for the right front side marker, turn signal and parking light come from the passenger's box. Power for the other lights come from the driver's box. All power for the lights are on a red/black wire. It would be highly unlikely that you have two bad fuse boxes. Do both of your vanity mirror lights work? You said your right front parking light, turn signl and side marker did not work? Does your cruise control main switch light up? Does your glove box light and hazard switch light work?

It's an LX. I did not check the power on the headlight switch as I said I replaced it and it did nothing. But I will check that tomorrow. What I meant to say was that my driver side fuse box seems to be working, but my pass side only gives me the pwr windows. Both of my vanity light don't work, none of the parking lights work, front or back, glove box light doesn't work, and same for the hazards.

What I'm telling you is that the Passenger's fuse box feeds power to the RIGHT FRONT parking light, turn signal, and side marker light as well as both vanity lights, clock, hazard switch and glove box light. The Driver's fuse box feeds power to the LEFT FRONT parking light, turn signal, side marker light, as well as the heater control panel, gear selector console lights (automatic transmission), cruise control main switch, gauge assembly and the audio unit. Since none of your parking lights, marker lights, and turn signals work It's highly unlike that both your fuse boxes are bad. While not impossible, very unlikely. Just to be 100% clear, you have a 1998 Accord LX coupe 2.3L 4 cylinder, manual A/C, no moon roof, automatic transmission??

Its a 99 Accord LX coupe, 2.3L, manual 5-spd, a/c, and I do have a sunroof. I'm damn good with cars, but electrical's not my best department. Just to be clear, the red and black on the pass side fuse box is the hot(positive) wire. I'm sure my other 2 fuse boxes work, otherwise the car just wouldn't be running.

Ok. My hommie has a 96 Honda Accord coupe ex. I am having the same issues for the most part. i went and changed the lights in the instrument cluster cuz the needles did not illuminate. after changing the bulbs and reinstalling everything, the whole thing this is out. all light in the cluster, running lights, and now the guages don't work. I know the 15amp fuse for the cluster lights is burned out so i put in a new one and still nothing. i have been trying to find a interior fuse box diagram, so if some one has one for a 96 honda accord coupe ex it would be greatly appreciated. And any input on how to approach this would be awesome

The red/black wire is a "hot" wire, meaning you should have battery voltage on that wire with the headlight switch in the "park" or "on" position. I was saying in an earlier post that 2 different fuse boxes supply power to your parking lights, marker lights, and turn signals. That's why it would be highly unlikely that you have 2 bad fuse boxes... not impossible but highly unlikely. Check for voltage on that red/black wire off of the headlight switch with it in either "on" or "park". You have to start somewhere and that is a good spot. What kind of testing equipment are you working with?

Just a volt meter. But why would it be my headlight switch? It seems to be a bigger problem since I don't have any lighting.

Listen, before power goes to either fuse boxes it comes from the headlight switch. The switch is the main source of power for all the lighting. If you don't make sure you have power on he red/black wire you'll be making a mistake.

I have no power on the red/black wire leading from my headlight switch. So where do I lose it?

So with your meter on the red/black wire at the headlight switch with it in either "on" or "park" there isn't any voltage? If you're checking the wire directly at the switch and there's no voltage present then you need to double check the fuse that feeds it, or your headlight switch is no good. Also double check the connection at the switch connector and make sure the terminal is not corroded.

There is no power at the switch, with it in the "on" or "park" position. checking fuse 9 on the driver side only feeds power when the ignition is in the "acc" or "on" position. Replaced the fuse with a brand new one, no difference. Looking for the "pink" wire that runs from the driver to pass multiplex, can't find that "pink" wire. And as I said, I already relaced the headlight switch, with no results.

You don't need to look for a pink wire. Now check for voltage on the red/green wire at the headlight switch. It's hot at all times so you don't need to have the switch on. If there isnt power on that wire, you actually need to check fuse 10 in the passenger's box. Power leaves the passenger's box through fuse 10-15amp and travels on the red/green wire to the switch. Fuse 10 is the other main source of power before the headlight switch. If fuse 10 is ok, and you still don't have power on the red/green wire you need the passenger's fuse box. If you have power on the red/green wire at the switch, then you need another switch.

I took a trip to the junk yard. Found an 02 coupe in nice shape. Took the pass fuse box and a headlight switch. Came home to swap it out and my pass door won't open. Spent an hour tryin to unlatch it, I'm sure I broke my door panel. All levers are moving but the thing is internally ceased, gotta have someone look at it on Monday unless I can figure it out.

Replaced the pass fuse box, blew a 40A Backup Acc fuse, replaced it. Everything works, thanks for all your help people.
