ODOMETER problem
My odometer stopped recording mileage. I just happen last night. I swore it's been on at 135999 since FOREVER. And I drove like a gazzillion miles on MEMORIAL day. Can I fix this myself or Iam I again gonna have to bring it to the dealership !

Not legally....... and I'm guessing that with that many miles you are past your warranty.
I had a friend with a 5th generation that was always getting stuck. He would tap the plastic and it would usually start working again.

Legally you can do it yourself, but in order to do you have to install the new one and go to DMV. They will put a sticker in the door jam stating what miles were on the car when the Odometer was replaced.

Crazy I wasn't aware you could do that. Do you have to bring in the one you pulled and they take your word for it and write the mileage on the odo you present to them on the sticker?
I was under the impression that a "authorized" dealer type person had to do it.

This is what I heard.
All you have 2 do is 2 reset your maintenance light (that little square that turnes green-yellow-red) on your cluster. Insert the key in the slot, push it in. And that should take care of the problem.

No it's not really nessecary if you are not too concerened about selling the car.
Plenty of people swap clusters for reasons other the then them not reading mileage (wanting a tach, wanting a super rare JDM one that reads in Km's).
Without that sticker in the door (and even with it to a certain extent) there is no way for you to prove what the true mileage of your car is though.

Hey I was just talking legality.
If you want go to http://www.car-part.com and you can find a clust with nearly the same amount of milage for around $60 and swap it for yours. Just an idea.
