Neebie needing help with accord purchase (tranny related)
Ive been looking around at the forum in an attempt to educate myself on accords and have come across a common notion that the 6th genn has tranny problems? Is that the manual or auto or are they both crap?
Im looking at a couple 98 4 cylinder manual trannys...
What other things might I want to look at when checking them out?

I think its safe to say that a manual transmission will always be more reliable (unless you fry the clutch learning how to drive it!). The average clutch can go 100k+ miles (depends a ton on how its driven obviously) and cost $100 some plus labor, how many auto trannys can do that?
Not to mention a manual transmission is just plain funner to drive. Better acceleration, better gas mileage (potentially), and more reliable. Can't go wrong with a stick.

Tires for signs of burn outs. Clutch pedal feel, effort, release height. Test drive grinding w/going into gears or hard going into gears.

Neither.
Its the V6 auto trannys for the 98-02 Accords. The 98-99 are less prone to have them but it still occurs. Some have also complained about the 4banger trannies failing but when I had mine it never had signs of failing. I owned a 4banger and now a V6. My 4banger was a 98 with 145k on the clock and I had a heavy foot with driving it like a manual. It took all my abuse and never slipped or anything. I guess its all luck!

Cool. I happened to bump into a friend who has a 6th genn coupe and he said he had to replace the tranny on his and I have read about it some so it got me worried.
I only plan on getting a manual so I shouldnt have problems. (Crossing fingers emoticon here)
