Default My sunroof won't close!

I've got a 4Dr 2000 Accord w/ a sunroof (I think the dealer added it), and it's been working great for the last 8 years, but all of a sudden it decided it didn't want to close any more. I live in a small town in the middle of no where (college), and it seems that the majority of car places around here only deal w/ oil changes and shocks. Any ideas how I can fix the roof so it'll close? It makes a clicking sound when I push the button, like it normally would do, but then nothing happens. Let me know if you need any more info to help diagnose the problem. Thanksssss

If it is a Factory installed unit (I've never seen an aftermarket unit in/on a Honda), there should be an emergency crank mechanism. On Honda's I've owned it was located above a plastic plug on the headlines (to the rear of the moonroof)
2000 you say, let me do some diging.

Yeh, Honda shows it in this illustration:

Just above the rear passanger's head.

let's see what else I can find

... and here's the illustration of the mechanism. Particular attention to number 22, the drive assembly. This is where the drive motor mounts, and the plug on the headline lines up with this. I can't find an illustration of a crank handle for this, but something commonly available MIGHT work

You're awesome! Thankssssss so much, so I basically pull back the headliner and I should be able to manually crank it ?

If it is a factory unit, toy will find a small (1.25") plastic plug on the headliner just above the rear passanger's head(s).
Pop that plug out and you should have access to the mechanism to manually close the sunroof.

If it IS an aftermarket sunroof as you suspected, you'd most likely have to rummage around to find where they sequestered to drive motor and go from there.

P

there should be no need to lower the headliner unless something totally unforseen has happened.

Alright, great, thanks. I took a look, and I wasn't able to find a plug, so I'm gonna assume it was an aftermarket install. Hopefully it doesn't rain tonight

Thanks a bunch

Sorry I can't be more helpful, but without some familiarity with the unit you've got - i'd be nothing more than a hinderance.

Does this unit appear self-contained, or does it utilize a remote mounted drive motor? Did you hear the motor above your head, or was in the the rear - possibly the trunk? Some aftermarket units (and some older domestic models) mount it there.

It seems to be self contained... the 'clicking' I hear, which I've always heard when I push the button, is right above the driver's seat. I'm gonna try and tear into it tomorrow when I've got some free time and see what I can find.

I've often maintained my Honda's will fix themselves if given enough time :-) .
I guess yours just wasn't ready to deal with a rain soaked interior.
At least now you've got time to assess the situation without being under the gun

Good Luck

LOL hondas always fix themselves some how, but if you dont find the problem while its there it could be a pain to fix when it no longer does the problem or eventually come back... like usual.. ;-)

I had a 2003 Honda Accord EX 4DR and the sunroof would open but would not close using the close button. Had to use the tilt up switch button to close it. After doing the research, i was able to find a TSB with a repair for the problem which seems to be common. It calls for the replacement of "Moonroof Limit Switch" but Honda Dealer had no such part listed so did some more research and found the part number and they listed it as "Sunroof Tilter Switch". Had to drop the rear of the sunroof as the part was located right behind the rear interior light and replacing the part resolved the problem. Part is #18 on the sunroof assembly diagram.

My sons 2006 accord sunroof won't open. Was working fine, no issues at all. Had to have his brake switch replaced yesterday because brake lights were flickering and sometimes not working. Those work fine, but now no sunroof function. Not making any noise at all, like a motor trying or any clicking noises. Could it be a fuse? He is two hours away at college...

Not really the place for a 2006 but anyway.

Check #28 20amp fuse in the under dash panel. If good, you will need to do some testing - have a volt meter or test light?
