My stupid hood won't stay down
I have a 92 Honda Accord whose hood latch gunked up this winter. Just today I sprayed out the hood latching mechanism with carb cleaner. This softened and removed all the crusty old grease that was in there. I relubricated it. All parts appear to move smoothly but the hood won't stay fully down!
There appear to be three 'claws' in the hood latch path;
#1 is the one that is connected to the lever that you push when you go out and open the hood. This claw moves out of the way when the lever is pushed.
#2 Is under mild spring tension
#3 is under strong spring tension- this one also seems to push the hood up when released by the trunk latch inside the car. The hood latch then pops up and is trapped by #1
Right now the hood is caught by #1 but won't stay all the way down. What is going on??

Re: My stupid hood won't stay down (SlowDown)
the latch is stuck, you need to slide the tab that has the spring attatched to it towards the right side of the car, then it will close. All thats holding the hood is the safty, not the latch itself. Its a lil hard to explain, I wish I had pics.

Ok I will give it a try. Is this one you are talking about #2 or #3? I hope its the one under mild spring tension but I bet it's the one under very strong spring tension
