Default My new car.

So I recently bought a Honda Accord 2000 v6 model. Has all power full leather interior. All the fun stuff. I love the car. It's my first car and it's simply amazing. Sadly I wish I could get better mpg but I wanted all the fun stuff and I'll pay a little extra if I have to.

Basically I want to share with you guys as I'm really happy to get this car.

It needs some work. Two windows don't go down and 1 engine mount could use a replacement. Other than that the car has been for the most part mechanically sound. I don't know much about cars but I hope to learn. It's an automatic.

Is there anything I could do to the engine to get better fuel economy? Also this car came with no service records. But my dad checked the oil and says it's fine for another 2k miles. The rest I don't know.

Aside from basic things like alignment, different tires, fuel system cleaner, and changing your air-filter every other oil change, you'll get what the v6 gives you. Hope it's a stick!

He said it was an automatic- they didn't offer stick for the 2000 v6.

As for improving gas mileage- changing your air filter every other oil change is nonsense. Keeping your tires inflated properly and not carrying extra weight in the trunk would be the best way. Also make sure you alignment is good.

How many miles? This generation Accord has been known to have tranny issues so I would check your tranny fluid.

I have been driving one for a few months now and have done quite a few repairs and preventative maintenance:

front driver control arm (upper balljoint can't be replaced- have to replace the control arm
front driver swaybar endlink (broken)
new battery (leaking)
new (+) (-) battery cables (corroded)
power steering fluid change
antifreeze change
tranny fluid change
oil + filter change
passenger motor mount
cabin filter (2)
air filter

It is a 2000 with 96k miles so I will be doing the water pump, timing belt & other belts, spark plugs, brake rotors (x4), brake pads (x4), and brake fluid once it hits 100,000 miles or so- will do it during the summer

The front motor mount needs replacing as does the passenger shock but whatever lol

It's a solid car other than the fading paint. I also have a 2000 Ex-v6. Hope someone around you can help with maintenance- not hard but can get costly if you let it go for a long time without fixing and very costly if you have to pay someone to do it for you.

Didn't realize that.

Changing your air filter every other isn't total nonsense, but you're right, you can probably get away with just blowing it out with a compressor each time you change the oil. I probably would change it more often than every 2-3 years as recommended though. Before I knew anything about anything I was driving around with an old air filter that was bogged out - changed it and improved my mileage more than double. But that was just ignorant negligence. Won't catch me overlooking basic maintenance like that again!

I almost yakked when I changed the cabin filter. The 2000 Accord takes 2, pretty sure they were never changed because omfg it is a pain to get to them. Needless to say- air smells much better.

But yeah- I change the air filter, wiper blades, cabin filter, and all fluids as part of yearly maintenance. Doing the work myself and buying from an online Honda dealer saves money. The trick is to buy out of state and buy enough where the tax that you don't pay covers the shipping.
