JDM H23a Vtec Swap Into 96 Accord EX
Okay,Some background information on myself.I have successfully completed many H series swaps into preludes and am very confident in myself when it comes to H series engines. So, when a friend of mine came to me and asked if I could swap the Jdm accord wagon H23a Vtec into his 96 accord I said yes.He has already bought the necessary parts for the swap Engine, trans, clutch and so on.
Now I know with some of you guys you are using an h22 intake manifold instead of the factory h23a manifold because of sensors and egr problems (from what Ive read here on H-T)If it is a problem it can be addressed as I have a spare h22 manifold he can use.Now I had planned on using his factory F22 harness as I believe it would be easiest, since its already wired for Vtec, I also know that some wires may or will have to be extended and that isn't a problem.
But one problem remains the knock sensor and the crank sensor on the h23a.I dont know if the factory f22 harness has the wire for the crank sensor down on the oil pump like OBD-2 preludes or not so that is one of my questions. What can be done about that, another question is about the knock sensor.Should I just run a wire from the knock sensor to the correct pin on the ecu pin out.The car will be run on either a OBD-2 p13 Or a conversion harness with an obd-1 p13 Until the owner buys a p28 and has the engine tuned
Also another Question I have is about the power steering.I have heard that on accords that you have to have the prelude fitting brazed onto the accord power steering when doing and h23-h22 swap, is this true or is there another way around this .
All info will be appreciated,Although experienced accord owners that have completed this swap and H22 swaps alike will be preferred,I have searched but have found only a little info on this swap being completed.I know it this engine will bolt in just fine after the driver side prelude mount is modified to finesse into the pocket. Thank you guys for your time and effort in advance. It is very much appreciated

About the Knock sensor, yes, you'll have to add wires from the sensor to the ECU pin out. And about the P/S, for my H22 swap, all I did was grab me a 97+ Prelude P/S Bracket to retain my stock p/s pump and line. That was all. Just the bracket and everything will mount into places. I'm not sure about the crank sensor. I don't think it'll matter because my H22 is a OBD2('96 Motor) engine, and I used my OBD1 F22 harness with no problems whatsoever.
If he gets a p28 ecu, he will not need the knock sensor because p28 don't come with them.

Thanks Nus_dogg,Ill tell him to pick up a 97 P/s bracket. On your swap was your car obd2 or obd1. It sounds like you used a obd 1 distributor and a obd1 computer with your obd1 f22 harness. Am I correct on what you did,I am also assuming that your car was obd1 from the factory.

The distributor was original(OBD2) and came with the motor, so I didn't touch it at all. Everything was plug and play.

Make sure you have a backup plan or two for that p/s pump bracket. Apparently they're hard to find and the dealers dont even stock them anymore.
GL and dont forget to post up the end result of the swap

One of my buddy has the same problem too. He swapped in a JDM H23A VTEC into his 97-01 prelude and the only problem he has is the distributor plugs just like yours.
What he did though was used a H22 distributor which I believe should plug right into the stock harness. Try that.
